Hey Nick, many thanks for your reply and tips.

Ref winter wheels. Interestingly the accessory catalogue labels the Grand Prix as GT Race ones. The latter ones are half an inch wider in the front and inches back. So both Serac and Grand Prix are the same size. Does nicht make sense to go to wider wheels under these circumstances since I‘d need to get an additional set of tires then.
Regarding the Legende alloys I agree they might keep the inside of the wheel and the brakes a bit cleaner in winter.

Ref storage. Velcro storage should still work since the storage boxes are also part of the official catalogue for 2022. I think the central storage unit would make it easier to transport a water bottle, that‘s why I am thinking of getting it.

Happy to learn more about the car and get in touch with you guys (and gals?).

No problem! Always happy to help where I can.

I have not looked at the accessory catalogue myself, but I think those wheel widths are almost correct - this is stolen from the Life 110 site:

Legende and Serac wheels:

Front - 18" x 7J, ET29
Rear - 18" x 8J, ET40

Fuchs and GT Race wheels:

Front - 18" x 7.5J, ET35
Rear - 18" x 8.5J, ET46

Note that you can fit both Pure/GT tyre widths (205/40 and 235/40) and S tyre widths (215/40 and 245/40) to the Fuchs and GT Race wheels, so you would not need additional tyres - you could put the existing summer tyres on the GT Race/Grand Prix wheels. I am here assuming that the accessory 'GT Race' wheel is the same as the 'Grand Prix' wheel.

Within limits set by ETRTO, increasing wheel width for a given tyre width is advantageous for steering/handling, with little impact on ride comfort. The Life 110 Corse Cup wheels are 0.5" wider still, carrying that advantage to the S (215/245) tyre fitment.

https://life110.co.uk/collections/alpine-a110-tuni...

I should have added - the official 'fix' for the side storage box is to supply them with a strip of self adhesive velcro to attach to the carpet. It is not ideal, so I found some automotive seat cloth and slipped two pieces under the door seals:

Hey that‘s awesome.

So maybe I can still go for bit wider wheels then use them with the summer tires from the Seracs and put the winter tires on those … Visually however I prefer the Fuchs ones that came with the PE over the pure silver or grey ones.
I‘ll go and ask my dealer how big the prize difference is. The set of winter GrandPrixs was 2.500EUR…

I was also wondering whether GrandPrix and GT Race are actually the same, as they are labeled as such in the catalogue, however if you take a close look at them, I think they do show subtle differences. I‘ll go and ask the dealer to be sure though.

Oh and I forgot: Yes, I did get the sills for the XPel PPF. Only thing I did not get was the front roofline, which seems to be an odd choice anyway.

Oh jeez, that's a shock.

I have an adapter which gives me two full cupholders using the one cupholder.

With regards to the velcro side storage box there might be a new version for 2022. I'm due to pick up my new A110 in couple of days and I enquired about these boxes from my dealer earlier this week. His response was that they are available BUT they are now attached "with 2 split rivettes (light screws) behind the passenger seat". He even sent me a picture with one installed behind the seat. The box itself looks the same as previously (and in Hoofty's picture).

My dealer quoted 80 eur as a price for the box (in Belgium).

It's just a square box now. Much better for storing stuff in IMHO

See I was wondering whether they took the insert out of the middle console, but if it is gone I may really opt for the central storage unit. Or does it now come as a standard with it? As in the Legende GT?

Can‘t remember if it was installed in the car I testdrove …

Oh interesting, not sure which I prefer. I'd probably make more use out of the two cupholders.

Problem with the central storage unit (apart from the price!) is that seriously restricts access to the area behind the seats.

Quick query and advice please.

I’ve recently passed the 3000 Km and for the first time have started to have some light fun with the car. Nothing too serious by PH standards.

Today, l started to notice a for the first time a slight but distinctive whooshing noise immediately after l ease off on the accelerator pedal. This sound is new and was definitely not there before - and as l admit the car’s been driven fairly conservatively, keeping to below 3000 revs for the first 3000 Km. The car seems to be behaving and sounding otherwise normal.

After having a short burst in Sport mode today, l began to notice later in the day this whooshing sound. Its only after l back off on the gas - and we’re talking about sensible speeds and revs around the 2500 to 3400 mark; so pretty tame and at legal speeds. (If anything, the whooshing sound appears to occur less at higher speeds when backing off than at lower speeds)

I’d be interested to know what other owners experience is on this sound and whether its an idea to have it checked out a local dealer whilst we are in France.

Thanks.

M.

Sounds like the blowoff valuve to me? Since the turbo comes on around 3000, and the sound comes when you lift off.

Absolutely nothing to worry about. I refer to it as Darth Vader.
Turbo dump valve is my guess - turbo is still spinning when you back off so that pressurised air needs to go somewhere so it vents to atmosphere

Same. If I’m on an A road but one that is busy enough that I can’t drive quickly, I’ll often amuse myself with speeding up then letting off just to hear it hehe

And me. I love the combination/contrast of the low rev gurgle and the higher rev spaceship noises.

But I do have an outer six year old, and it's the grown-up who's inside.

I think that's what really set it apart from the Caymans I test drove before buying one.

The only thing the Cayman could offer in the situation LeglessAlex described was this fake exhaust popping, which I know the Alpine has too but the Cayman was exactly the same every single time where as the Alpine kind of surprises you with it.

The Alpine sounds like you're driving a living/breathing thing.

Thanks Chaps thumbup

Good to know l am in good company ref: sounds, and thanks for the explanation, appreciated. A quick check on the internet led me to assume it was connected to the turbo and the release valve, but l thought it best to check with other owners. Its now confirmed as normal. This is my first benzine turbo, and had never experienced the same sound with my olds TDI’s.

p.s. l found a great luggage solution for the frunk which l’ll add to the Interior Luggage solutions thread.
