Alpine A110 owners
Discussion
I quite like it. My wife would, but to me it devalues the brand somewhat.
Currently there is something of a division from Renault, who are seen as cheap. Alpine are little known currently and sell at a premium. This has the potential for the brand to become broadly known to most people as "Just a Renault".

Anyone else see the launch event for the A290_?? The electric Alpine version of the forthcoming retro Renault 5. Great looking take on it, looks like an updated R5Turbo.
I'm sure it said a 3seater but it wasnt clear if that was a central driving position or a sideways rear just like the option on the old mercedes pagoda 280sl, I'm not sure if that would even be possible these days with current safety regs
I am sure I read somewhere that they said the interior was about 1% accurate of what to expect the final product to be.I'm sure it said a 3seater but it wasnt clear if that was a central driving position or a sideways rear just like the option on the old mercedes pagoda 280sl, I'm not sure if that would even be possible these days with current safety regs
I like the sound of these though could be the perfect car to pair with the A110 in the garage.
I am looking forward to being proved wrong, but I am not expecting this EV hatchback to be much fun. I am more interested in the Renault 5 EV it is based on as it should lack pretensions to be something it cannot and looks quite cool in a retro way similar to the A110.
That said, if I did ever need a practical car as well as my A110 I would probably get a Dacia Duster, I expect there will be an EV version soon enough.

I think the brand is going to end up like Abarth to FiatCurrently there is something of a division from Renault, who are seen as cheap. Alpine are little known currently and sell at a premium. This has the potential for the brand to become broadly known to most people as "Just a Renault".
Hopefully not like Arbarth more like Cupra emerging from within Seat as a standalone company developing its own cars.
Ultimately I guess I'm more concerned about the forthcoming SUV diluting the brand, but all the big players are going down that route and it hasn't done Porsche any harm. It might also sort out the parts supply issues with a bigger dealer network.

I suspect you are right. As long as they don't make Renault A110 with a 1 litre mild hybrid.
Not sure about the 1 litre, but I'm inclined to think a hybrid might be both lighter and nicer to drive drive than an all electric alternative. Not a hope of it happening though.Alpine Legende GT said:

It's supposed to be 3 seats, 2 rear and one central drivers seat upfront.I'm sure it said a 3seater but it wasnt clear if that was a central driving position or a sideways rear just like the option on the old mercedes pagoda 280sl, I'm not sure if that would even be possible these days with current safety regs
I was hoping for a hot hatch with refined styling and suspension like the A110, imagine that.
Alpine is Renaultsport rebranded and upmarketed, some people don't like this but it is the truth as far as I can tell. There is even an Alpine edition hybrid Clio in the works, don't get too excited though the 0-60 is supposed to only be 'under 10 seconds'.

Retro you say, the penny dropped the other day as to what our drive/garage looks like:
Modern Beetle
Modern Fiat 500
Mini F56
Mini R56
Alpine 110
That's quite the retrotastic garage you have! May I suggest a Z8 if you're extremely flush with cash but the one car I think you're missing is a Nissan Figaro.Modern Beetle

HaHaHa! re z8
We had two z8s before the prices went from 60-90k to now 200k plus, absolutely beautiful cars but very very old tech. You couldn't drive in any wintry conditions, especially the worst of winters, it was rear drive but not enough weight over rear axle to stop wheelspin on any ice.
Absolutely great to be it, you'd get thumbs up all the time as it was rare and not associated with the bling of ferraris (but hugely better looking than most!)

Oh don't, my daughter has already been talking about a Figaro. #2 Son also looking at "Real" BeetlesCan't say I'm a fan of the Z8. Never did like them.
I could always buy a 911, of any era, they are all retro

3 months in and I'd give anything for a glovebox in this otherwise brilliant car!!
I never even think about the missing glove box. It's 12 months for me, & it's the A pillar on the diver's side that drives me mad. It's huge & it's in my way. It spoils every roundabout. Why did it have to go there? A wrap around screen, more like the original A110, which would give a more upright A-pillar that would be further back from the front of the car would have been a much better design.
2nd most annoying thing: it's the steering that gives no clues about what the front tyres are doing.
It's a great car, despite it's many. design flaws & not one thing has gone wrong with it over the past 12 months - amazing for a low volume car that's only been around for a few years.

If you think that A-pillar is bad, never drive a BMW 2-series Grand Tourer. It's our family car and I'd say it's downright dangerous how big the A-pillar is. It's a hateful thing. With you on the A pillar - but a pretty much universal issue on modern cars. As you say a really wraparound windscreen (one of the few American inspired ideas?) was much better ergonomically - and I'd need a bit of convincing that it wasn't just as good structurally or safety-wise as modern alternatives.2nd most annoying thing: it's the steering that gives no clues about what the front tyres are doing.

If your steering gives you NO clues as to what is going on, I'd suggest you check your geo. Is the steering as informative as an Elise or Caterham - not by a long way - but as uncommunicative as you imply - not convinced.

Well that's good news - thanks. The geo is on my to do list - I imagined I'd be going up to Spires soon after I'd put a few hundred miles on the car, to have Life110 R53 coilover upgrade, Ti rear track rods, geo set up, braided brake lines & a few other bits, but the R53 kit never became available (even though it was announced long before I got my car) & I've been too busy to implement a plan B.I am 5'9" and my bucket seats are set to what I think is the middle height level from the dealer. I only realised after about 500 miles of driving that I cannot see any of the car beyond the top of the windscreen wiper. This probably reveals something not great about me as a driver. However, what I have noticed as this has not once been a problem; I have parking sensors and also it seems quite easy to intuit where the front of the car is. Does anyone else have this, or something similar, experience? I don't want to raise the seat height, I am currently feeling at one with the car and do not want to change anything that could mess it up.
