It is friendly but there are the same three Porsche fanboys who always interrupt an alpine thread with their nonsense.
Yes, I've read plenty of it. Sometimes (though its difficult), its just better not to rise to something you disagree with as it feeds the argument. If people want to have any bias then its their loss. blueg33 said:

It is a shame. I was in an Alpine on Sunday, and loved it. For me it feels like you're driving a spaceship (because I mostly drive older cars probably), but at one point a Cayman chased me down a little and followed me for a while. It was actually a lot of fun and I really liked the Cayman too. I don't know why it can't be a friendly rivalry between two great cars rather than a constant attempt to make one look rubbish.
I don't understand it either. I've owned both an A110 and Caymans (though never a 718) and they have all been great cars in different ways. It's not difficult to assess the qualities of each but I'd also it is also challenging to ultimately decide which one I prefer. I honestly don't have an answer - I've liked them all for different reasons and I understand where the weaknesses are for both. As one of the forum members mentioned earlier, I also got a lot more attention (all of it positive) in an Alpine than in a Porsche. Most of the Porsche owners I know though don't seem have time for the Alpine. Maybe my online experience is reflective of real life which is a real shame.

I had a 981 GTS, 981 2.7 and now an R. I think a 2.7 is a great car and pretty much all you need. I loved the GTS though I must admit, although it looked and sounded good, it was a bit too shiny - it also grounded out everywhere I went. I'm quite happy with the R though which I think is the best of the lot for me. Tried the 718 and it wasn't my thing.
I think you're misquoting there. I didn't write that, as I haven't owned or driven them. lukeharding said:

Every thread goes down this road. We know the Cayman is a great car, we know the Alpine is a great car. This addding up prices and looking at 10ths of a second etc is just so boring now. Ruins every alpine thread.

It's because Porsche fanboys who couldn't afford or live with a proper Porsche suddenly find their favourite car is beaten and they can't handle it. And beaten by a brand they think is beneath them which makes the pain harder to swallow.

‘Beaten’ and ‘a proper Porsche’ make you look like you don’t know much about cars. It's really quite pathetic.
A proper Porsche can only be a 911 of course. I doubt anybody in here would trade mid engine handling for a lard-arse like that but I could be wrong.

Actually I am a Porsche fanboy. Driven loads, owned and heavily tracked a GT4 yada yada.
And yes, I personally wouldn't buy a Porsche unless it was a GT3/RS or a tweaked air-cooled car.
The Cayman is a fine car but it's hardly that exciting is it?
I find these Alpine threads interesting, very interesting. They tend to go like this:
“Alpine is a great car, I would seriously consider one”
“Nah mate, for £50k you can get a Porsche, M2, Supra - a car with a proper engine”
“What do you know, Alpine is lightweight, aluminium bodied - even xx drives one, so it must be better than ..”
“ No you’re wrong. No, you’re wrong”
“If I could afford....”
“If you can’t afford, your opinion doesn’t count”
Back to the top and repeat.

Spot on. The dedicated French and UK Alpine forums are really friendly actually. Lots of practical and useful discussions on there.“Alpine is a great car, I would seriously consider one”

Oddly no-one seems to make an issue of the the fact that the z4 is £51k or the Supra £55k. I don't either - they are very well equipped as standard. But I could get all uppity about the fact that they are constructed of that low rent stuff - steel - and have relatively primitive strut suspension. Clearly the badge is more important than the engineering...
