I'd like to add a point that is very often overlooked when talking about unsprung weight of rims... the actual weight of a certain tyre.

At example for my Lotus Elise S1 the Yokohama AD08RS weighs front 1 kg and rear 1.5 kg less than the Nankang NS-2R in exaxtly the same size.

Indeed, by spec'ing the 17" OEM wheels the overall sprung weight (with tyres) is just over 10KG less in total than with standard OEM 18" wheels (Legende or Serac). The 17"s are actually the lowest weight combination from all the OEM choices. And I haven't read of any non-OEM wheels + tyres combo's being any lighter.

I got a bit nerdy about wheel weights a month or two ago and compiled as much data as I could on as many wheel options I could find. Attached is my -very unofficial - spreadsheet. The only ones I've weighed personally are the GT Race. However, from these I was able to extrapolate weights for the front/rear tyres (in my case Michelin Cup 2s) and then used these as the control tyres for the total weight for a set of each wheel option. As far as possible the data has come direct from the manufacturer, but I'm happy to be corrected. The options in bold are standard options available from Alpine which backs up your comment Meonstoke that the 17" wheels are the lightest EOM option.

On the strength of this I ordered a set of Bola FP2s which I expect to receive in the next couple of weeks. Hopefully these will give me a c.9kg rotating mass saving..

Useful table thanks for sharing. I keep looking at the Alpine cup wheels which seem perennially out of stock on the life site, and lots cheaper from evo corse themselves.

If you want to add the A110R carbon wheel weights to the table here they are:

Front - 15.5kg
Rear - 17.5 kg

Both fitted with Cup2 tyres.

I have a set of the Evo Corse Cup wheels that I purchased from David which I could be persuaded to move on.

Feel free to PM me if you want more details.

Are the weights for the Serac and standard wheels in the correct column? I assume they are the weights without tyres and they appear to be the same?

Ha! I knew it might be a bad move to stick my head above the parapet on this subject!

The total weight for a set of Legende and Serac rims is taken from Alpine's brochure. I've just subtracted the weight of a set of Cup 2s but of course that's not strictly correct. Tbh I wasn't considering swapping to either of these rims so I just slotted in the total weights for completeness.

A110R carbon rims added (thanks A110MW).

Any more precise figures, or other rims, please let me know and I will update - I'm not proud!

For completeness on the table above... I bought a second set of 17" OE wheels to put winter tyres on and weighed them when they arrived. 8.1kg for the front, 9.3 for the rears. I don't have weights with tyres, although that will vary by tyre too.

It still amuses me that these are the lighter option than the 18" "lightweight" wheels.

Many thanks. Update attached, with an estimate of the 17" tyre weights being 8.45kg for the fronts and 10.1kg for the rears, in order to get us to 71.9kg total for the set as stated in the Alpine brochure.

Big caveat to note is how the weight of the TPMS units and valves factor in. These seem to be about 150g each so quite probably the 17" tyres are 8.3kg and 9.95kg (if you see what I mean). I've a set of these in the garage. I'll weight them and post for completeness.

Just noticed Evo Corse sell wheels for Alpine on their site, but offsets are slightly different than Life110, but quite a bit cheaper? Anyone bought direct, and those with The wheels themselves, what was the fitment like; is there room for them to move outward or not?

Alpine Cup wheels from Evo Corse - ET 32 Front, ET 40 Rear (Life 110 - ET 35 Front, ET 46 Rear)
So from Evo Corse for £560 less, fronts 3mm outboard and rears 6mm outboard.

Evo Corse San Remo from Evo Corse - ET 35 Front, ET 38 Rear (Life 110 - ET 35 Front, ET 38 Rear)
Same price and same offsets?
