Atelier Colours

I am on the verge of ordering either a Tulipe Noir or Abyss Blue, should I be concerned about the quality of the Atelier paint option? I intend to take it straight to a detailer anyway to resolve any imperfections.
Why are there paint quality issues when the special colour options are so hideously expensive?Alpine state that the cost is due to the cars having to be removed from the production line to be hand painted. By way of comparison, Porsche charge £8k for a similar option ('PTS', paint to sample).
I do not disagree that it is expensive and I do not disagree that if you are spending that sort of money on a paint option that the quality should be very high.

On the verge of buying a new Alpine A110 as an investment (Alpine brand going all electric, only ICE model since their revival in 2017), I'm looking for as much resell value as possible and therefore decided to go for an atelier colour on a Pure model. What do you guys think is a good colour choice? I'm thinking on picking a colour that almost reached it's 110 limit as I feel that much other colours won't reach their end limit, making the 00/110 badge in the car a bit irrelevant. Am I wrong? Of course, I want to like the colour as well but there's not much from the atelier colours that I don't like

There are some really good Atelier colours - but I'm not convinced they are the best investment, they are just so expensive. Alpine Blue will always be popular and easy to sell (and even then the number of UK cars in that colour will be low). Personally, as an investment I'd go for Abyss Blue (it's a cheap option) or Fire Orange. No point in going for any colour if you don't really like it.xplain said:
@bcr5784 interesting you mention Abyss Blue. While I like the color on the A110, not sure why this would be a good investment throughout many years.
Can you explain this a bit more?
My argument would be that an Atelier colour is unlikely to attract a £3000+ premium secondhand over the standard range - say Alpine Blue. However Abyss blue is a £1000 cheaper than Alpine Blue - and I'm not sure it will make that much difference to secondhand value. I may well be wrong - it's just my speculation. Can you explain this a bit more?

I didn't buy my car as investment though, so I would chose the colour I like and can afford. In my case Alpine Blue is a lovely colour I am very happy with, I didn't choose with selling in mind, in fact I didn't chose the car with selling in mind either.springfan62 said:

But xplain asked what colour might be the best as an investment - and I gave my two penn'orth. I did say no point in buying a colour you didn't like. The best colour for an investment A110 is white, which (correct me if I'm wrong) is the only colour that costs £0. & it's a colour that looks good on an A110 too.
The worst colour would be one of the £4,400 atelier colours, especially one of the current fashion colours, such as grey, which, will be old fashioned & undesirable by the time you come to cash in your investment.
My rationale is: if you'd stuck £4,400 (or any other amount) into a FTSE tracker fund 10 years ago, it would be worth more than double today. If you'd invested in a US tracker fund it might be closer to three times. Do you really think in 10 years' time
somebody's going to pay £10,000 more for an atelier colour car than a white car? I don't. So if you're thinking about your car in pure investment terms, don't spend £4,400 on paint.
Having said that, I would never spec' a car for the next owner. I'd always spec' a car for myself, even if I was thinking it might be an investment. So go ahead & "invest" £55k or whatever in a car, & treat yourself to £4,400 worth of paint, if this will help you enjoy your investment.

Thanks bram070 and xplain for the updates, I'll amend the table (although I remain suspicious of some of the colours actually reaching their production limit before 'retirement'... )
As an atelier buyer (Bleu de France #007 dontchaknow), although I'd be thrilled for it to have a positive impact on its residuals (should that be needed), it wasn't the motive behind the option; that was sheer indulgence, to - as tony put it - better enjoy the investment. And it worked.
Also agree on 'free white' looking great. Often wonder what the liquid yellow car (which started as free white) would fetch on the market.

When I ordered my car I was told the 'free' white option wasn't available to order at that time, which amused me.
Renault again trying to rinse every last Euro out of the Alpine brand before it has to go EV. I come from the world of Caterham 7 and all the prices they quote for new cars does not include any paint !!!I actually think there are to many colour choices in the A110 range. Some are rather naff IMHO. Keep it simple & reduce the choice.
Alpine blue for me if I ever do get one.

The revived ICE A110 was from the very beginning promoted by Alpine as the launchpad for their EV range circa 2024/25. Their atelier colours all come from previous A110 years. A nice marketing touch l would say. And no comparison between an A110 and a L7 replica kit car - lets be honest; catering for completely different segments in the market. I can’t see anyone switching allegiance from one brand to the other...unlikely to happen. Whenever Caterham or Westfield drivers can no longer handle the impracticalities, no doubt they’ll sensibly switch to a MX-5, quite possibly pimped by BBR. A most tempting proposition l’d say.I actually think there are to many colour choices in the A110 range. Some are rather naff IMHO. Keep it simple & reduce the choice.
