I love the pops and bangs. I am a child.
It’s far less offensive than the Audi / Mercedes ASBO maps that I hear.

I'm with afew others with regards pops and bangs, at the right time and place I'm happy with, doesn't offend but not something would normally choose. When I don't want them tends to be when I'm around town or driving slowly through villages, which is when I use normal

With respect to rev counter clarity, the rare times I really want to know its easy to cycle through the options using the buttons on the stalk and set the large number read for the centre of the dial

Yes. Apologies to WWW (OP). That was my fault.

& as mentioned above, it would be great if we could be given the choice on pops & bangs, when buying a remap.

You don’t need a remap - it can just be coded out

I vaguely recall that Peter at TRS performance said he could do it - might be worth a call. I may have misremembered though.

Anyone had any success with communicating via the OBD port? I haven't tried (I've used Carista before with some success - but they don't do Renault). Carly claim to do Renault but their dongle is a bit of a rip off. The basic software is free so might be worth trying via my cheapy eBay dongle.

After twelve days and 2,600 kms of driving in my new Alpine, I am mostly positive about the exhaust note including those pops and bangs. The sound is not overdone, although I am glad that I can switch back to 'Normal' mode when driving through towns.

Nail on the head.
To gain attention all children scream or try and shout down an adults conversation.
Anyone who removes the muffler/silencer or makes a car that pops and bangs is still just a child demanding that everyone pay them attention by making as much noise as possible. biggrin

I'd like to remove the pops and bangs, but I do like the slight extra rortiness in Sport mode. I'd be happy just disabling the exhaust sport mode though.

I did chat with him and he confirmed it could probably be done. I pointed him at this thread smile

This does raise the tantalising prospect of (conversely) having a full ASBO crackle map for those of us with far less shame... laugh

I don't think this is what you were actually getting at, but a member on here unplugged their exhaust valve switch, and found the power delivery much restricted at the top end (implying that it always opens at high rpm regardless of mode). Mentioned only in a 'there's possibly more to it' sense. smile

Interesting - ta.

Then just disabling the bangs would do nicely. I like the gurgles and whooshes.

Just to resurrect this thread as I can’t find any other relating to exhaust. Are the comments on here relating to the sports exhaust or standard.
In standard mode how is the sport exhaust, ie can you drive the car without all on the high street thinking it’s a yob in an A45

Yes - absolutely. The Sports exhaust only makes a noticeable noise in Sports mode. In standard mode it’s very civilised.

I agree. In normal it has a nice (but not very loud) burble. Sport mode is a bit louder and does the odd bang, but it's still a long way from the lariest exhaust I've heard.

I think the sport valve is also open when the car is started from cold (what would have been 'on choke' in NA cars): tickover is faster, and the exhaust noisier, for about 20 - 30 seconds, and then it settles to a slower and more muted tickover. I'm guessing that disabling the flap might alter this.

I imagine that is to ensure that the flap doesn't get stuck if you don't use Sport much.

Is this the case for the normal exhaust too? As in the standard non-sport exhaust also noticeably gets louder in Sport mode with some pops and bangs?

Ideally I will test drive cars with both but not all sellers specify which exhaust is fitted.

I'm used to an Akrapovic on a Clio 197 so would like to maintain some pops and bangs, albeit a bit more refined.

I have the standard non-sport exhaust on my A110 and yes, that is the case. On normal mode there are no pops and bangs whatsoever, but on sport mode there are pops and bangs on downshifts and when lifting the gas pedal. There is slight increase on the general loudness on sport mode, but that is not very noticeable.
