Hi folks

Collecting my car on 1st July. Any recommendations for insurers - quotes so far are coming out more than I was expecting (and significantly higher than my 2019 Elise).

Thanks

David

Aviva gave me a very good quote in December, but it's always hard to say as all insurers have different models that are constantly changing as the risk profile of their portfolio evolves over time.

If the quotes on comparison sites are all higher than you expected then you might be a bit stuck unless someone else knows of other options.

There's just been a long list on the FB page - a friend is renewing with AViva as most other comparison site insurers showed little savings

Me too. Been with them for 10+ years, through both Evoras. Always have to rework the renewal invite though.

Admiral particularly good if you have multicover. We currently have 4 cars and the house with them and it’s meant none of my kids have ever had to have a black box and not paid any more than if they had elsewhere.

The Alpine is a touch more expensive than the Evoras, but that could just be this years general price increase. I actually got a return premium when changing the Alfa Guilia Veloce to the Alpine.

Phoned Admiral and a few others and they were all useless. Never done it before but i put my details into Go compare and got loads of cheaper quotes, eventually went with Churchill.

I went with NFU as they were in the ball park price wise but you get gap insurance included for 2 years. i.e. you get a new car if yours is written off within 2 years rather than just 1 year as most offer. Their customer service is always highly rated as well.

Thanks all. My cheapest quote so far is also Admiral. Will give NFU a try also.

£300 has been the ballpark figure every since I've owned the car - geriatric with clean record an full ncd in mid risk area. LV consistently good.

This is promising... I'm ~£1,200 with LV, very close to 30, 3 points, South East. By the end of next summer, both the "sub-30" and "3 points" situations will have departed, so I'll await my 60+% reduction!

I used Gocompare for renewal quotes and the AA cheapest @ £ 575, £ 200 cheaper than Aviva renewal quote (present insurer). LV quoted £ 625 but high £ 800 excess. Everyone's ages, NCD, location, mileage, usage will be different and affect the price, a comparison site is a good place to start.

If only it was that simple! There are many things that go into it. Age is one, but so is the area you live, homeownership status, credit record, job, relationship status, dependents, etc. They probably even check if you're on the electoral register. It's all very personal, but that's how they build a risk profile for each person.

For what it's worth I was paying £1400 at one point in my early 30s, my only explanation is that I was renting in a slightly bad area. I pay ~£400 now for my RCF, but I'm also a few years older and a bit more "established" in life.

Admiral has consistently been the cheapest for me for the last few years. Make sure you ask them about ways to bring the price down each renewal as well, they can apply discounts.

Ha, yes slightly facetious from me there, I of course doubt it'll be anything like that but I'd like to hope it'll become more palatable in time.

Homeownership, credit, relationship should all be glowing ticks along with electoral register. I assume for dependents, they like you to have some so you're thinking about not killing yourself/others "for the children" and thus drive slower?

Good advice ref asking on the phone though - I should do that more, and tend to get lazy with taking the cheapest comparison site quote I get. Once I hit my first renewal on the Alpine I will look to play the game!

Checked on GoCompare, which sent me to LV. Can't recall the cost (sub £500?) and got voucher to cover my excess in the event of an accident from Go Compare.
