Karting. Tips needed.

Twin engine prokarts? last time i used them they were around 6 hp per engine, with a top speed of around 50mph on a decent track, he said 3 Sisters so guessing the club track? , you wont hit 70mph on that track, maybe 45-50mph, these are heavy karts and low powered.
At Shenington on the main straight ( thats really long ) we used to hit 90mph + but using an ICC kart with 50bhp and a proper racing engine and they only weigh 80kg.
Maybe these karts are different?
P.S. Makes me want to race again writing that.... happy days.

Tell me about it. I have just been watching some of the vids on Club100's website http://www.club100.co.uk/club100tv.htm
Remember if its wet, the last place you want to be is on the 'racing line'. Try and drive around the outside of the corners. The racing line is where all the oil and rubber is laid down which when wet is like ice.
Also, and its a bit hard to do as it requires some commitment, is to come up to the corner and just chuck full lock on and let the understeer slow you down. (You have to brake as well though).
Looks horrible, but seems to be fast.
The reason for getting the inside back wheel off the track or as near as poss is to remove the effect of the kart having a solid axle. The 2 wheels obviously rotate at the same speed, but the inside wheel is performing a tighter radius, making the outside wheel more likely to break traction. If the inside wheel is unloaded, its less likely to do so. But on a lumbering prokart - mmm, hard to achieve due to the weight.

People always always over egg the speed of karts - particularly rental karts - I race club 100 and at clay you are looking more at 60mph - In my easykart (28hp) which is 5 secs a lap quicker than a club 100 kart around clay the gearing is something in the region of 72mph into billys at clay.
So a twin engined rental prokart would stuggle to hit 55 i would imagine

The worst place to be in a wet race is the outside of a corner. If the kart wants to drift wide you have no where to go, kerbs, grass, tyre wall game over. If you hit the apex and the kart pushes wide you have the rest of the width of track to drift/slide and recover. andygo said:

I am assuming you mean wet. If you are understeering in the wet then you are not going where you want to be, which is left or right. Boot full of throttle will overcome the understeer, push you into oversteer that you can then feather on the throttle and drive round the corner. Cotty said:

Sorry, I think you are wrong.Well in fact, having spoken to my sons, I know know you are wrong.

I once did a 40 min stint at Clay Pigeon and took my team from 30th to 4th in the wet. If Club100 keep records I sure they would back that up.

Cotty there is a thread on the club 100 forum abut top speeds at various tracks - Glan Y gors which has a long long flat out section (maybe second only to the entry to billys at clay in speed ) was 59mph (verified by GPS).....
Ok I accept that they overstate the speed. So what does a twin angine prokart do? Cotty said:
You have spoken to people about it rather than done it yourself? I came second in my Club100 Rookie championship, third in Club100 intermediate and left Club100 as a premier driver.

Spoken to my sons who used to compete successfully at super 1 Tkm and national 125 gearbox. Elder son has had f3 podiums, f Renault, nat Zetec ford class wins, scca, 2nd national ff1600 championship 2010, shed loads of ff1600 wins. Blah blah blah. Think he knows what he is talking about. Oh, and won loads of kart races at 3 sisters.I once did a 40 min stint at Clay Pigeon and took my team from 30th to 4th in the wet. If Club100 keep records I sure they would back that up.
He did a ff1600 race at Oulton a few weeks ago. Not sat in the car for 7 months. No testing. Rainy. Won by 17 seconds.
You have done bit of arrive and drive karting. Well done, haha.

So are you relying on other peoples experiences to form your own judgements? You have done bit of arrive and drive karting. Well done, haha.

Handle like a massive spastic elephant on diazapan.I did loads of AD prokart stuff(+ a few enduros in private Karts) and thought they were pretty cool, been racing my own Rotax Max this year and they are like totally different things.
Regardless of the fundamental speed of the machine, I think the biggest factor in the crapness/difficulty/compromise of AD anything vs private is the concrete superlife tyres used. Not tried Club 100 or Dmax so cant comment but would expect the same.
I would tend to use the same throttle violence tactic in a wet prokart, but I wouldnt make a lap in the Max with that approach.

Who are they? i race F3 so might know them. Just to add, driving a kart has little in common with single seaters so unsure why you added the above ? but interesting all the same.He did a ff1600 race at Oulton a few weeks ago. Not sat in the car for 7 months. No testing. Rainy. Won by 17 seconds.
