I seem to remember years ago, reading somewhere that the Evora chassis was not rigid enough for the Evora to be made into a convertible without major engineering changes. If this is true, then as the Emira is heavily based on the Evora chassis, I guess this is the reason that no convertible is planned.
in an Evora the roll-over protection is a steel hoop over the top of your head, ahead of the rear seats. I think the windscreen frame was just fibreglass like in the Elise.
I don't think you could even do a lift out targa panel other than an old fashioned sunroof without re-engineering the roll-over protection, which would have a huge knock-on effect on the chassis design and the windscreen frame.

It is such a shame that Lotus didn't originally engineer the chassis to be capable of creating a convertible Evora (and therefore Emira ) as I am sure a convertible option would have made a significant impact on sales of both models.I don't think you could even do a lift out targa panel other than an old fashioned sunroof without re-engineering the roll-over protection, which would have a huge knock-on effect on the chassis design and the windscreen frame.

Im not sure that’s the case, it’s significantly stiffer than an Elise / Exige and they don’t have a roof.johnymac said:

I don't think sales is an issue for them! Manufacturing and delivering is the big problem. Adding another significant variant in the lineup I suspect is just not feasible even if it was part of the design.BCA were doing all the PDIs if you get a dealer collection they are now doing it.
Working in the motor trade I can't tell you how dumb it was to ever even think of getting BCA involved in anything they are a shower of an organisation!
Bit worrying to see the number of issues the cars are having including paint issues. There's such little capacity to resolve everything the dealers are very very busy with everything relating to the Emira.

Lotus have to get the cars delivered to get the money in, reduce general & further backlog before the new model comes out. If they can't do that in house, they have to send out to others to speed things up, in the shortest possible timeframe. Are there other neutral companies that would have the single point resources of BCA (or would multiple smaller companies have been better)? With hindsight (especially if they're planning to ramp up production), perhaps they should have built a new facility at Hethel for extra capacity to help sort this out, but this takes time & extra money, which despite Geely backing, Hethel may not have had.
Getting the product right in the first place is the easiest way to reduce future issues & workload. Lotus QA dept really need to look at what they're doing, to generate confidence in the brand, which is what they've been struggling against for years, otherwise buyers will just go to the competition (again).
Hi
Cannot access my deposit documents at moment to check but have just received a request from lotus today (payable by may 8th) for a configuration fee of £3000. Looks genuine. Anyone else had this?
Given that my last estimated delivery date was November 2023 and have ordered the v4 this request seems a little premature

I've had an email to confirm the config of my i4 today to be done by 8th May. No fee to pay as I paid both parts of the fee. I was an early V6 depositor then changed my mind. to i4. There's no idea of timelines for the build and to get to the checkout stage and no confirmation of the final price.
I'm fairly sure I'm still not committed to buying it until it's built and I then do the checkout. Is that correct?
If so, it seems odd to build a car for me and not have me committed to buying it yet.

You are only committed once you have confirmed the spec via configurator up to your cut off date.
If you don't confirm the config you simply pass on that slot and await the next invitation to configure which is what I did for my i4 invite last time as I have my V6 arriving in a few weeks.
Problem with waiting is you may get a post Spring 24 allocation which could well mean a second price rise.
