This guy gives a positive review of the Emira, but to me, it shows what I was saying about it not having a sense of speed or power. Have a flick through the driving parts:

Maybe it's the engine noise, maybe it's the excellent visibility which kills the sense of speed, I can't quite put my finger on it.
The same criticism was made of the Evora. Given that the Emira is heavier and the exhaust quieter as you say, it isn't surprising that it doesn't feel 400bhp fast. It's still a bit of a mystery why it's so much slower than a Cayman GTS .

I really think it’s down to Porsche always underestimate their power figures and the v6 in the Lotus maybe doesn’t make the 400hp it is claimed to make. There is quite a difference on paper especially midrange 60-120mph when in reality they should be pretty close. Obviously gearing has a lot to do with it.

ISTR reading a rolling road report on the v6 emira and the power was pretty good.

I've not driven a v6 emira enough to tell, but the Evora 410 I owned always felt slow especially compared to the 415bhp in the 997 Porsche that preceded it in my ownership.

Lotus power figures are normally pretty accurate so it won`t be the outright power, but it will be due to a lower torque figure and the relationship between gearing and the torque band.

Having said that I recently drove my ex Evora 410 IPS back to back with my friends Cayman GT4 and there was perceivably nothing in it. This might be because the IPS gearbox is a bit stronger and the torque output is a little higher than the manual car.
I still preferred the Evora and he preferred the Cayman so they are very close. The perfect car for me would be the Evora chassis with the Cayman engine and drivetrain... I do fantasize about getting an old V6 Exige and putting a Porsche flat six set up in it... takes all sorts!

Since driving the Emira and being left a bit disappointed I've often wondered what alternatives there were out there that offer what Lotus were aiming to do.

This car seems to tick a lot of those boxes, it even has a frunk:

It’s a pretty different proposition with a different appeal. Sodding quick. V8, automatic, 1660kg. Five inches wider and a foot longer.

Probably a 458.

458 totally different league price point and much higher running costs.

My 458 wasn't 'that' much more in the grand scheme of things (even official dealer cars can be as low 130k-ish) and although there is the potential for big bills it's not that bad to keep on the road and probably less than most would assume. And likely to not lose too much over a couple of years if bought wisely. But just focusing on the drive/noise/etc the 458 has to be a consideration, even if it's ultimately dismissed as too old or too risky a proposition.

I would imagine that Corvette is probably closer in ownership costs, though maybe that's based on outdated assumptions that US cars are relatively cheap to maintain. Different sort of car, though.

Stock is building at dealers too. The number of cars on AT is not all of the cars that are available. The dealer stock is retained by the factory so to an extent they can exert some control on the market but I would predict some decent falls as we head towards winter. Something starting with a 6 will 100% be possible by the end of Jan 24.
Just coming back to this from a few months ago - perhaps 'something starting with a 5...' by Jan '24 now?

That's more a reflection on the entire used car market, though.

And someone paid that (or near it) for that car.

Must be kicking themselves about now..

Not a bad prediction from June if I do say so myself.

June/July August is when the crash was beginning I feel we are past the bottom now just need to hold until Jan. You can see this reflected in all the Emiras that are still mid 70s there's little point making price reductions in December. One thing that would be handy to know is how slowly Lotus are dropping the cancelled orders onto the market. If there are 20 then prices could well firm up. If there are 250 then you'll see 50k cars next year! There could be scope for an interest rate cut in the first quarter of next year as the affects of the huge increases are really kicking hard now having been overdone. Add in some wage rises plus election year there should be some positivity in the air next year and that's what this market feeds on.

I see they are still struggling with certification in the USA that must be frustrating as there will be a huge amount of cars going to the USA. I4 has everyone forgotten about that? Deliveries were supposed to be about now for UK? I haven't heard of any updates in quite a while.

It's coming up for a year since I bailed out into something else, but I have always liked Lotus and keep a bit of an eye on this part of forum to see how people are getting on. Got to say the lack of chatter about the Emira is a bit worrying.

Has everyone got their cars now? I assume as they seem to have quite a lot of stock they have caught up with the order book for the V6. It doesn't feel like many have gone all the way through and taken delivery on here or is everyone just having to much fun with their cars?

Had a quick look on the configurator looks like they are still selling first editions which is a bit weird.

What's the problem with the i4? Seems like ages ago since Harrys Garage had one but no one seems to have got a test drive let alone a delivery yet?

I keep expecting lotus to get through it and get going but still doesn't really seem to be happening yet.

Also doesn't seem like there is going to be a faster one as they have announced its EV replacement.

Hope those have got cars love them either way though!

My impression is that Lotus have been building i4s pending a regulatory approval or similar and that has now happened.

Mine is built and ready to collect apparently - sadly after a big think, I have cancelled.

There has been a regulatory delay getting them into the USA, not sure about anywhere else.
