Hey guys, never had a Lotus before but always liked the idea of one. Quite keen on an Emira at some point. A few questions if anyone can help.

1. 6'3, think it'll be a problem?
2. Size 12 feet, been a bit borderline in the F8 Tributo for example, thoughts on Lotus footbox sizes for big feet?
3. Do Lotus tend to do last hurrah special editions before they discontinue a model? Are these hard to get and reserved for "preferred" customers if so?
4. Do Lotus tend to signal when they're going to discontinue a car or is it a case of just finding out on PH that someone tried to place an order and was told no more will be made?
5. Reliability these days? Would be the V6 which I gather is a Toyota so assume that should be pretty solid but any other thoughts appreciated.

Given that normal non-first edition ones look like still being a year or two out, I'd guess that the car should have a production run of at least 5 years? What's a waitlist typically look like for a new Lotus? I'd like to get a relatively late one in the production run but appreciate it isn't exactly possible to place an order for "the last Emira". Any other thoughts in Lotus ownership to a newbie appreciated.

I'm a bit confused by the questions! You'd like to buy an end-of-line Emira, being a car that's not yet in production which could well be in production until new ICE cars are banned. Is that right?

They have already said that Emira is their last ICE car and that they have electric cars coming from IIRC 2026

I had 2 Evoras with this engine. reliability was superb, not a single issue in over 75k miles. Lotus issues tend to be with niggly things rather than major ones, but early Evoras had clutch install issues although that is long sorted. It is a nosiy drive train though

Well, I'd like to get an Emira at some point. I suppose in the ideal scenario it would be some kind of limited edition one that Lotus produces towards the end of the production run yes, early niggles (if any) I'd guess would be ironed out by then, maybe they'll produce one with a slightly higher power output etc. But I will probably get a normal V6 manual one after they've been out for a while. Just trying to understand the lay of the land with Lotus' given I've had no experience of them before.

Thanks so much for these answers, very helpful! Yes, foot width was more the problem for me in the F8, trainers we're too wide but smarter shoes seemed ok.

Are the limited editions usually preallocated by the factory like Ferrari or each dealer gets an allocation and the ring kissing happens at the dealership level like with Porsche? Or are they just not that hard to get on the list for?

It’s hard to day what will happen with the Emira because sales levels are unprecedented for Lotus. In the recent past you have been able to get the specials like the GT430, but they have been expensive.

IMO in recent years there have been a few too many limited editions which can undermine resale. Lotus is not Porsche so you don’t get the Porsche limited edition effect. IMO that’s no bad thing.

However, Emira could be a game changer for Lotus so predictions are very difficult.

A bit like the F8 the Emira is a limited run anyway. Limited by time and a horizon where ICE cars are no longer built.

Re shoes/feet being too wide - try driving / racing shoes - actually very stylish some times and quite a thin material
