Received today, looks like (some?) existing orders protected from price increase…..

Please be advised that, as a result of significantly increasing costs, the Lotus Emira will later this year be subject to new pricing.

Whilst a significant level of cost increase has been absorbed, with effect from 1 June 2023, the retail price will increase to £81,995 (incl VAT) for the Emira V6 First Edition, and £77,795 (incl VAT) for the Emira First Edition 4-cylinder turbocharged variant. Full pricing details can be found on our website. However, your Emira reservation will not be affected by this increase, we can confirm your reservation has been price protected.

We are fully committed to our production schedule and in the next two weeks, we will be in touch via email to update you further on the progression of your Lotus Emira.

Due to overwhelming demand, we will be closing reservations for Lotus Emira V6 First Edition. We will be sharing the exact timings soon.

If you have yet to book your test drive or have any other questions, please contact our dedicated Lotus Customer Care team by phone, or live chat on Lotuscars.com.

We promise your Lotus Emira First Edition will be worth the wait.

That's a very different email to the one that I have been sent:

"Please be advised that, as a result of significantly increasing costs, the Lotus Emira will later this year be subject to new pricing.

Whilst a significant level of cost increase has been absorbed and prices held since first deliveries in 2022 right the way through to summer 2023, with effect from 1 June 2023, the retail price will increase to £81,995 (incl VAT) for the Emira V6 First Edition and £77,795 (incl VAT) for the Emira First Edition 4-cylinder turbocharged variant. Full pricing details can be found on our website.

Due to the overwhelming demand for the Lotus Emira V6 First Edition, we would like to share with you the upcoming Emira milestones:

In summer 2023 Emira First Edition 4-cylinder turbocharged variant will begin production.
In 2024 production will begin of the Emira V6 and Emira 4-cylinder turbocharged variant, and pricing will be announced in Q3 2023.

We promise your Lotus Emira will be worth the wait."

Yep, I got the email indicating the price has NOT been honoured and will pay more

It may be due to when you are actually due to take delivery of your Emira as I had an i4 on order with possible November delivery date.

It seems from the Emira forum that early deposits / near term deliveries are being price honoured.

You'd hate to be the bloke (or woman) that is the first person to pay the new price assuming they put their order in quite some time ago.

Atleast they wouldn't know i suppose.

Seems to be based on build date. I put a deposit down in July 21 for an i4. From the email I got I am not price protected - same for pretty much all in the same boat so far as I can tell from an Emira chat board. I’ve been thinking for a while that I might cancel and while I won’t request the deposit back immediately I’d say it’s very likely I will. I understand that inflation is high, but they’ve had my deposit for 18 months now and it’s Lotus that keep pushing back the delivery dates. Matt Windle also promised prices would be held on YouTube sometime ago for depositors. It’s just another thing that kills my excitement/enthusiasm for this car and that’s a problem as it’s a purchase of the heart and not the head.

I had the email today, my order is NOT price protected (despite it being confirmed on my test drive that all depositors would get their price honoured).
I phoned Lotus CC, apparently anybody whose car is being built in May 2023 or before has their price secured, everybody else, no matter when you placed your deposit, is subject to the new prices. Looks like a lot of us were 'misinformed' when we were told that our deposits secured the price or indeed when Matt Windle promised that prices wouldn't be increased on YouTube in August last year. Not happy, but life goes on.

Hi. I may not be the first for that honour but probably in the first 20 given the current rate of car completion. Deposit placed Aug'21. Had been scheduled for a May '23 build since November '22 (a month it which it started at an assumed June to March to June to May in a week), which was changed to June build on 31st Jan this year. Builds from 1st June onwards are not "protected". Anyone who was after an I4 regardless of deposit date will be hit so there will be plenty of people who placed a deposit before me who'll also feel this pain, along (probably) with anyone who ordered a V6 auto as we're yet to see any of those on the road.
For my little rant there are two reasons why this goes against the traditional sense of fair play.
Firstly there was a video, sent to deposit holders in which Matt Windle explicitly promised that regardless of the delays and financial issues "the price you were quoted for your emira is the price you'll pay - and that is a promise". They didn't have to do that but they did. In my view given the audience to whom that was sent (specific to deposit holders and not the general public) the unambiguous nature of what was said (the "and that is a promise" is pretty damning here) and who said it (ie had the authority to be making the promise as CEO) it should be enforceable at law.
The second is that a seemingly arbitrary cut of date has been picked. Whilst I appreciate some may say I'm feeling particularly targeted by this given my recent build date change, in reality there has been no demonstrated logic in the build order. It certainly doesn't match deposit order (there are pre-reveal deposit holders who haven't had their cars yet) so some other criteria is being used to determine what cars are being built when. It's this randomness of who this affects that really grates.
On the plus side who knows - maybe those who pay the extra 6K will get cars that actually work with the seatbelts attached properly and wipers that can go full speed in auto sensing mode.

They couldn't care less. When I cancelled I got no more than a terse acknowledgement. I suspect my decision will be validated over and over during the coming months. Windle looks out of his depth and the customer service and marketing is more in line with that of a local double glazing company than a fair sized manufacturer with heritage and ambitions to be a much bigger player. I suspect the management simply aren't up to it/

Windle will be gone in a few weeks and I tend to agree - the actions are of a company which is trying to get people to cancel, which is backed up by every interaction I've had with customer services.

I've just requested a cancellation of my order. Was so excited for this car, but it's slowly been edging out of reach.

Further to the email advising of Price increase, I've just had another email, requesting payment of the 2nd part of the deposit if £3,000.

It seems The customer care team are unable to keep track of their own records, as thus was paid in Dec 2021 along with confirming my spec.

Given the comments regarding very early priority customers not having received cars ut does beg the question how are build slots actually being allocated.

It seems they should focus on loyalty rather than sending out stupid generic emails.

I totally agree and share your experience. When I embarked on this journey in July 2021 and paid a deposit I was seduced by the stunning design of the car but was nervous of the existing Lotus reputation of poor build quality and reliability. I went on a factory tour which did little to reassure me as it was clear that most of the staff were being trained on what was a completely new production line with just one robot which is used to fit the roof. The preproduction cars at that time still had many outstanding issues so it was clear there were going to be further delays.on delivery to customers. I then drove the car on track via “a taste of Lotus” which appeared slow and the sound of the engine was a disappointment. The trim in the cabin also looked cheap and poorly fitted when compared to other quality car manufacturers. The early feedback from customers who took delivery of the car with a whole range of faults being reported was not a surprise. This was the tipping point for me with no local dealer I would potentially be buying a car with endless problems with no support and a company that doesn’t give a damn about their customers. If reliability issues continue to blight this car then depreciation could be a problem as owners get fed up and start offloading them and it gets flagged as a car to avoid - Lots Of Trouble Usually Serious - LOTUS.

Hi all
Just picking up this thread.
Agree that Lotus CC don’t know what they’re doing. Randomly emailed them asking if my delayed car was still q2 2024 (delayed from q2 2023) only to find out my car goes into production in June 2023. Allegedly it’s because i was one of the first to spec my price increased car which actually suggested to me I got bumped up the list as someone with similar spec pulled out.
Deposit placed April 2021 for info.
Pretty shocking treatment to put the prices up around 8%, but it’s suck it up or cancel. Those seem to be our choices.
