Bloody hell!

Due to an unwanted pay rise next year I am looking at leasing a Taycan as a way of keeping me out of the 62% income tax band. However it's £1,200 of your actual net income a month to lease a Taycan base model on a 10,000 mile a year 2 year lease deal. Which seems loopy expensive when it's no cheaper per mile on fuel than a BMW 840d. Which for 24 times £1200 you could actually own outright after two years rather than hand back...

Taycans are going to be very cheap because they don't have the frugality or the range of a Tesla, the fanbois don't want them, the servicing costs are Porsche OEM, so what is the point once the tax breaks are gone?

Very very niche.
And yet if you want a new one (I tried) then they make you wait for 2 years.

I can only assume the glut of used ones are people who tried them and can't get on with the electric thing and/or people who've had them on lease and returned them.

FWIW, I had an Audi e-tron GT (essentially the same car) and thought it was smashing. I was lucky to have free charging at work though, which was a game changer in terms of running it.

I gave up too. Waited pretty much two years, and then when price was hiked on me and the various quality control issues started appearing I asked for my deposit back. I've loved the Lotus brand all my life and this was a chance to own the final ICE Lotus before they all go electric, so I really, really did want it to work out.

In the meantime I picked up a very nice 991T. Although obviously not quite the same sort of car, it seemed very unlikely that the Lotus was going to provide the trouble-free experience that the 911 has been providing.

How are people canceling their orders? I’ve emailed customer services twice now to cancel, and a week later haven’t had so much as an acknowledgment.

I’ll be surprised if they bother acknowledging, you will just get the refund land in your account in around 2-4 weeks.

How did Lotus go from so much demand with the world at their feet to snatching defeat from the jaws of victory?

I had this problem. Get on the phone give them a push to find the email and acknowledge it.

I sent 2 emails heard nothing eventually after a month so I gave them a kicking to find the emails. The 3-4 weeks started from when they found the emails.

If they haven't responded that probably means you have been ignored.

And they wonder why people are so unimpressed with them.

This stuff must be really damaging them. I have been looking at what EV im going to get next and the Emeya should be right up there. I mentioned it to my wife and she just scolded me for daring to suggest another Lotus after my Emira experience.

Obviously I'm a big boy and can buy what I want but it's not a massive stretch of the imagination for manyy people to have done the same as my wife, simply labeled them as not worth the hassle.

which would be a real shame.

I originally placed a deposit for an Emira i4 in July’21. Right after the GFOS that year. There was a lot of hype and wanted to scratch that Lotus itch.

In early 2022 I cancelled my i4 order because i didn’t really want to wait 2-3 years - when I heard Q4’23/Q1’24 I just gave up. Lotus in fairness returned my deposit in 1 week. No acknowledgment - just £2,000 appeared in my account one day.

During my dithering/cancellation phase on the Lotus I jumped on the Porsche configurator site and this time it was for a Taycan Cross Turismo. Long story - waited 12 months and finally got the car in December’22. Had the car three months and rejected it on a number of issues - Porsche refunded me the whole purchase price.

So reading all of this I think I dodged 2 bullets - would have lost big £ on the Taycan as I was only looking to keep it for 2 years. I still like the Lotus but decided it was just too much money and hassle.

I'd completely forgotten I've got a deposit on an i4. That's despite a barrage of reassuring comms from lotus. Oh, hold on...
