So the wife decided she wanted one of these so next Wednesday her Lamborghini Urus goes and we collect a lightly used Turbo S.

Any pointers on these and what to expect, haven't had an EV before so this should be interesting..
I went down the same route of chopping in my urus a couple of weeks ago for a turbo - i was questioning my sanity in all honesty but now ive got the turbo, im happy! Much faster and smoother than the urus but do watch out for the clearance when coming from an urus. you do need to use the lift system on some bumps that would not even be a consideration on the urus.

If I go hybrid, it'd likely be a ranger P400e Rover Velar PHEV. For the size of vehicle I want/need and the journeys I do, it's basically a very cheap way of running one.

As a pure EV then tax breaks make a purchase perfect sense, but not IMV at higher end...yet. Small urban, no brainer if you have second car for longer journeys etc.

Just picked up our Taycan 4S on Saturday and i have to say first impressions are wow!!! Being a die hard petrol head i'm actually shocked at how much i like it. Technically its my wife's company car but after playing with it for a few days now i know we'll be fighting for the keys in the future.

Its surprisingly enjoyable car to drive. I much prefer driving it to my old 992CS i had last year. What ever depreciation it suffers will mostly be offset with WDA.

My wife hasn't driven one yet. I have the strong suspicion she'll take mine the first time she drives it. The perfect excuse to buy a Turbo...smile

For us it was a no brainer. Taking everything into account, company and personal tax savings, it will cost us less over the ownership period than the Merc GLC diesel that it has replaced and i certainly wasnt fighting for those keys.

As an added bonus, having taken delivery of a GT4 back in July and this one just now i am certainly hopeful of an allocation for the new GT3 touring smile

Saw my first Taycan on the road today, it looks fantastically mean from the front and had real road presence. Looking forward to seeing plenty more smile

Yeah when it came out I thought it was a huge disappointment compared to the styling of the mission e but I'd only seen it on paper; in the flesh I think it looks great and will probably age much better than the mission e would have.

Pictures don't do it justice. Even in ours sober Volcano grey it really turns heads.

Harry Metcalfe’s latest vid talks about the future of ICE cars but he also mentioned he conducted an online poll of Taycan buyers and asked what the main decision was behind buying the car. 80% said tax ! Not a surprise I suppose. The other 20% will probably be “OPC Relationship” smile

A bit of a classic journalists poll though; asking a rhetorical question.

Many will have fancied a Taycan and then noted that you can also buy the car tax free and get a 3500 discount as well. Suddenly, yes the tax was then the main decision to purchase. A bit similar to any item you might fancy. The price looks a bit steep, so you might walk away. Then you realise that there's a 50% sale on!

Discount does not apply to the Taycan as the list price is above the threshold, which I think, but not 100% sure, is £50k

I'm seem to remember the OPC saying that they'd rushed in my paperwork for the OLEV grant, so maybe I was one of last to get it on a Taycan? I haven't researched the rules, just happy to get the 3500.

I bought it because I thought it was brilliant. Why would anyone buy one for tax, I don't get it?

Simple. In the UK, most are bought through businesses and attract an exceptionally low BIK. 2 to 3% of purchase price.

Even a PHEV is 11-13% over next three years, so it's attractive, especially if you're gross pay hovers in between £100 and £150k where marginal rates are eyewatering.

Last time I ran a Range Rover Vogue through one of my firms was 20 years ago. It costs too much in BIK.

I find i could justify the purchase of a £100K Taycan 4S due to the attractive WDA tax allowances. Without these concessions there's no way i'd pay that sum of money for a fancy car used primarily for business purposes. For a private buyer its different as you should buy a £100k car purely because you like it and the tax equation doesn't enter into it.
The Taycan is a great car in its own right and drives like a proper Porsche in complete contrast to other EVs.

A lot of fleet/business vehicles will be leased rather than bought, so I'm not sure they'd get full WDA but the BIK tax advantage is very clear.
