Not a Taycan, but I have had an ipace for 15 months and consider myself an EV convert. I've still got a 997 and some other ICE weekend toys but for a daily I wouldn't go back. I do about 1,000 miles a month and it is fast, comfortable and cheap to run on the right tariff. I have a charger in the garage and have only used a public fast charger on 2 occasions. Most of the EV negativity comes from people who have never driven or lived with them.

I am pondering a Deposit for Macan EV but not sure if it’s going to be a car for me or not, so I’d really appreciated some advice from current Taycan owners as I suspect many things will apply to both…..

By way of background, For daily I run a fully loaded BMW 340D touring on all weather tyres and it’s brilliant in terms of all round ability, performance, economy, snow (I live in the sticks and drive in Scottish highlands regularly) plus has en electric tow bar so can tow my Caterham in trailer without missing a beat. So, the EV will have to be really good to better it!

Interested in the usual stuff like:
Running cost (v my 40MPG diesel)
Range
Use ability

Also any general info/comments most welcome!
I have a Taycan Turbo S, which I'm very fortunate to be able to use alongside (for context) a Pana Turbo S wagon, 991.2GT3, 992 GTS cab, A110, Madgwick Mini and a few other things.

It is easily my favourite everyday car for anything, even fun, if range isn't an issue. Last point is key. Relying on infra is too frustrating. Feels like 1 in 3 chargers are u/s, charging rate at those that do work is variable at very best and then there's the queues. And, no one cares. At a fuel pump, if there's a fault, the person in the pay desk sees it as their problem. With EV chargers, no one owns the problem, call a number, best of luck.

But back to the car. The Taycan is a simply extraordinary piece of kit. Heavy? Feels like a 911 to steer and turn - it's way sharper, lighter and nicer feeling than even the 22 model year Pana ST TS. It combines this freakish quality of luxury, smoothness and comfort with startling driving enjoyment. One hears people saying 'but you must get bored of the performance, surely...' Nope.

I've done 15k miles since Sept 2020. Get about 240miles in summer, just under 200 in winter, both if exercising some restraint.

If you think it's heavy, boring, not a Porsche, that's cool; this post isn't for you.

Gripes about it..?

It's a bit small inside, like a roomier 911 rather than say Macan. Taycan wagon prob better.

Peculiarly, it mists up inside quite easily in cold months. Stupidly didn't spec the rear zone controls for climate, that might help.

Rear vision is very poor, high rear shelf, very narrow slot of glass. And the reversing lights are, I'm not kidding, utterly useless. Having to reverse in country lanes to find a passing spot is unnecessarily difficult. Again, wagon prob better.

And don't forget to use the nose lifter everywhere. Treat it like a GT Porsche, not great in car parks or urban speed ramps.

Just curious…
Both, and I love my 4S so much I've ordered a Turbo S.

Tax implications just sweeten what is an already excellent car and a fantastic daily driver.

Never had any issues with public charging and I've done around 15k miles in the last year. It certainly does hide it's size and weight, and drives very much like a Porsche.

One observation I have made of the many many Teslas I encounter is how very slowly they are driven. Is this to do with type of buyer or fear of running out of electric? Might it also apply to the Taycan?

Perhaps I just notice far fewer other EVs but they too exhibit the same behaviour and they're all pootling around like snails.

Mine doesn't pootle about when the opportunity presents itself.

But thinking about it, I've never seen a Tesla being driven other than slowly.

I have often noticed this phenomenon. Worries me if I bought an EV I’d start driving like Miss Daisy all the time due to range anxiety!

Mrs Digga had an I-Pace for a year so so. Whisper it, but in many regards it might even be a better car to live with than a Taycan.

I prefer the styling and capacity of my Taycan CT and it definitely handles better, but the single pedal driving is great for commuting on the Jag.

With diesel now at £2/L where we live I'm thankful we've got a Taycan as a daily. Went to pay my respects to a close friend/cousin last night after a family bereavement and after a busy day and late finish was running late. They live about 20 miles away on a twisty bumpy B road route. I was amazed at how brilliantly my 4S CT handled it at a fast pace especially as it was wet. The steering precision, handling with RAS, truly astounding damping and brilliant air suspension made for very safe and fast pace and fun at the same time.
This is the most impressive aspect about the Taycan IMO and not its green credentials. I'm lucky to have other more exotic and faster cars in my garage but over wet slippery B roads none of them would have kept up with the Taycan.
Its a truly brilliant first EV effort by Porsche and bodes well for the future.

I have never got on with one pedal driving in anything I've tried it in, Tesla and Jag being the two. The Taycan is the closest to 'normal' car driving I've come across.

I've been driving the Taycan almost exclusively for the past couple of weeks, it's just effortless in every situation but it doesn't quite match a 911 for quicker B road driving. To get up and float to the office though, it never ceases to amaze me. What pisses me off is the 20% of the time it doesn't connect to CarPlay.

What is the process these days for ordering a car( Porsche) that hasn't been released yet? Can they take a deposit pending build slot or will I get laughed out of the showroom? Bought a Cayenne from a dealer years ago but apart from the have no history.
Would be nice to look forward to a new car coming even if its a few years away.

Which unreleased model are you thinking of?

If you just want to put down a few k and say "whatever new model comes up, I want this placed on it" I think most dealers would decline.

Best bet would be to go and talk to a dealer. But going in with such an open query is unlikely to mark you out as serious IMO.

Click on the phone symbol on the heating bit, then the dots on the bottom LHS, then of the two options click device manager, brings up 2 Bluetooth symbols and a car play symbol next to your phone name, click on carplay symbol and your done.

You get used to it, I must do it 3-4 times a week!

Some dealers will take a £3K deposit some (mine included) won’t as the cars not yet been released. At my dealer they have a pile of “letters of intent”. I suspect the regular customers will get priority and there will be a massive waiting list when the car is eventually released.

The tax thing got me looking. I'll buy one now either way.
Don't get suckered in because of the tax, look what happened to diesel. Once the pendulum swung to diesel, oops, we cocked up and diesels now get smacked on taxes.

Had a 4S since November 2020 - it's a very well put together car and is a really nice drive, I keep getting reminded of this when it breaks down and I get given an Audi by Porsche Assist laugh

You don't notice it right away, but it's fking massive. Taking it into multi-story carparks is interesting. If you live in an area with narrow roads then that can be interesting too. As alluded to before, reliability on mine has been questionable - it seems to need to go to Porsche for software updates because the PCM has stopped working or there's a recall quite often. It recently needed it's battery charger replacing too.

I've looked at getting something else, but no other EV drives like it or is built quite as well. I've been spoiled! (But I have put a deposit down on a Macan EV for whenever that lands).

Ask your dealership for one, they'll take £3k off you and put your order in computer as a Macan 2.0. Then who knows! (They said they'd be in touch when it becomes available to me though).

I'm not being. But the second sentence applies smile

(Incidentally, the biggest tax break I might have looked at was a one time thing, so would have been unlikely to come back to haunt).
