I want a Dokker but they have no plans to sell them over here.

The stepway version of that would make a great Dog caddy for the hounds.

Seats aren't that super terrible, prob wouldnt want to dive on them with ten years of bolster wear mind you.

I looked on the Renault website and the Kangoo (non-van) version is no longer available. So, whilst there would be no conflict, Renault UK perceive there to be no demand.

I guess people are too busy buying baby SUV and the like these days.

The Stepway Dokker sounds like the car the Berlingo should have become rather than trying to bling it up like they did.

I'd probably spend 5k on a reliable suzuki swift sport, at least then you could have some revvy fun and keep a grand back for upkeep. I reckon an access Sandero would be painfully slow. I totally see the appeal mind, but imagine having to live with it, I think it would get very boring very quickly and you'd wish you hadn't bothered
Funnily enough my mrs is quite keen on the swift sport.

This is what keeps going through my mind - you can get a lot for 5k these days and I could keep some back for any problems, and enjoy a nicer faster car.

BUT

warrantee!!! And brand new car! Even a slow 1.2 Sandero is appealing against a used 5k car simply for those reasons alone. It trumps most of these used car thoughts. I don't want to buy one and regret it if it breaks down and I have to fork out to fix, or pay bigger servicing costs as Dacias are very reasonable. It's the sort of car you can buy new, own and run into the ground eventually and have lost very little money

Thanks for your thoughts on this everyone, it's helping me make the decision

The last time I tried to test drive a sandero the dealer didn't have any petrols as I said earlier in the thread

Yesterday I went to another dealer who have a used 13 plate one for sale with the 1.2 so I'm going to try that on Sunday just to see how it is.

The chap seemed really helpful but even before discussing it for two mins he was already assuming I wanted the optional metallic paint and trying to plug the finance - and then told me about a brand new clio.

If I make my mind up to buy one I think I'll order it online. £100 deposit and no messing about.

I was in a similar situation a year or so ago with slightly different motivators.

I sold my CLS 500 as the bork potential was enormous and I had remained relatively unscathed for two years.

I leased a Fiesta 1.25 Zetec (running is faster) and bought a 33yr old Merc SEL 500 as my toy, without the Merc I could not have subjected myself to such abject misery.

That said I now quite like the Fiesta :-)

Is it much cheaper than the 1.0 ecoboost to lease? Cause they are plenty quick enough to keep up with the flow

60 miles a day - go electric our leaf and Zoe cost £1800 a year factor in 4 miles a KW instead of petrol and you have a sumptuous driving experience for less but no equity. Actually scrub that as its limited mileage sorry. Used Leaf maybe ?

I have to admit that reading through this has made me consider a dacia. I've got a classic saab 900 for weekend use which I love, and a 0.9tce sandero in ambience trim would only be around 7500 brand new, warranty extended to 5 years +395 quid, service plan 400 odd.

I have plans to get a C Class merc diesel, an older one, just to run to work and back but I kinda like the idea of no repair worries, the 90 brake little turbo petrol should be economical enough and fast enough for the boring commute and the proper driving could be done at weekends - of course If I got bored with it could always Palm it off on the mrs to use

Not totally sold because I bet they're bland as hell but it's certainly a good deal

I've driven a 1.2 in the old clio and I couldn't cope with how slow it is

I'm finding it so hard making the decision.

On the one hand: spend so much time driving 1.5-2 hours per day 4 days a week, that perhaps I could get something fun I.e. The swift sport you mentioned before, or something comfy and quicker with nice seats and air con I.e 5 series or even a golf gti, and have a small just incase fund.

On the other hand: it's a brand spanking new car, no repairs to worry about due to warranty, servicing is cheap, it's only for work so I could cope with the cheapskate image my colleagues will no doubt take the piss about, and it would be handy not to have to leave my beloved classic in the tesco car park when I have a budget run around.

Can't ignore how nice it would be to have a new car that could last years and years for such a small initial outlay. I'm not sure if I'd regret it though. I'm a keen and enthusiastic driver, that being said I don't tend to rush to or from work and the hooning could be saved for weekends.

I just don't know. Lead time on the one I'd want is apparently 6-8 weeks so in that time I would be able to sell my POS daily, and save the money for the payment on the sandero when it arrives. In the mean time this weekend I will be testing a couple of used cars and dacias to see if that helps my decision. First world problems!

Why not look to see how the the cost a new Sandero compares to a year(ish) old Kia (remainder of 7 years warranty), Hyundai or Toyota (remainder of 5 years warranty) then you will still get the warranty but not have to drive around wishing you had a few more toys for a few hours a day?.

This warranty thing is bugging me!... Why is it so attractive? don't you have to pay dealer 'servicing' prices to be able to maintain the warranty?

The thing is with the sandero I guess is in terms of size, the kias and Toyota offerings, used of a similar price, don't offer the same practicality.

Dealer servicing for dacia is peanuts really, 150 odd quid I believe.

I think I'm coming to the conclusion you'd still be better having a used car and a just incase fund. It's great to get something brand new, but you do compromise on a lot with one of these

Oh and to add to what others in this thread have said, to the previous poster, you can use any garage to service the car as long as they use approved genuine parts

One spend, guaranteed fixed outlay for at least 3 years. I spend the purchase price, servicing, tyres & brakes, fuel, and not a penny more. I then know i won't have any unexpected outgoings from the car.

If this is absolutely and completely necessary then go for it, it should be fit for purpose! You will probably regret not getting something more interesting but each time you do just go for a drive in your other car to get rid of that feeling

I suppose I keep answering my own questions on this one. I will just have to keep reminding myself that I have a nicer more fun car at home for when I need it

If you have to keep doing that, doesn't that mean you are not 100% convinced by the idea?
