To who? It's an ugly little plug of a hatch. Weirdly, also one of my car-mad 6 year old's son's pet hates.

Nothing wrong with it, but IMO having such a cheap car launched with the emphasis on cheap, is just a crappy sign of the times we're in.

It's the motoring pound shop mentality.

Surely people in this country can/want to do better than this, that's what I find sad.
So everyone should be driving base spec audis and vw's upto thier eyeballs in debt?

Wait didn't things like that get us in a mess in the first place?

Interesting comments.

I would definitely buy the poverty spec one. I've got my eye out for a cheap, safe, economical shopping car that the OH can drive and take the little one out in. Something that can be bashed, take the odd car park knock, take stuff to the tip and get me to and from work if need be.

I think this looks like a great little car.

Okay Compare this to a poverty spec Audi A1

Tell me why the Audi is better

As in my eyes I prefer the Dacia as its less then 50% the cost of a baby Audi
if for no other reason, it's aspirational.
In what sense? All an A1 says to me is failed estate agent who's daft enough to spend extra on a four ringed badge instead of a VW or Skoda which share exactly the same engineering for a far better price.

A5's, A6s, TTs, A8s and R8s are a different matter entirely but small Audis are no more aspirational than "Tesco Finest".

Some people aspire to be bright orange and appear on the telly shagging a footballer

So its a st argument

Why is the Audi A1 a better car

A car being a device to get you from A to B not demonstrate you are better then the neighbours

And they won't buy the Dacia. Fortunately, and contrary to what the daytime tv shows would like us to believe, the vast majority of the UK are not TOWIE-types.

Not true

There is no competing Skoda as the Fabia is on the old platform dating back to the late 90s, so therefore isn't the same as the A1

Against the Polo there is very little in it for price, A1 is £13,640 for the 1.2 TFSI SE. Closest competing Polo would be the 1.4 85PS Match 3dr at £13,005. Both have similar equipment with A/C and Alloys etc. For your extra £600 the Audi gives you the newer engine with improved performance, mpg and CO2 along with the better build quality. Additionally it has the MMI system and pop-up colour display which the Polo lacks.

So do your research before posting crap

maybe to you it does, but at least it's someone who want's to do better, and aspire to the A5 etc.

Then once he has an A5 then aspire to an R8...

What do you aspire to if you actually spend your wages on this Dacia? I do know some people that don't care about cars and may like this on price only, but this is pistonheads after all not www.cheapo-money-saving-bore-look-at-my-5k-car.com...

no of course they're not.

but i DO encounter them, and you cant say a bad word about VW's, Audis or Mercedes around them, as they are holier than the holy grail to them.

but they will happily dismiss a skoda or seat

What a cracking little car. 90hp, blown 3 cylinder should be a lot of fun and its difficult to argue with that price.

Strip out the interior, pop in a cage and you've got the makings of a fairly cheap one make series here.

Hats off to Dacia/Renault for delivering commonsense motoring at commonsense prices. No haggling, no discounts, just pay and drive.
It will be interesting to see if this challenges the UK industry to react.
A thoroughly honest car which does what it sets out to do, in a calm unpretentious way - love it!

Is that why you went for the Elite trim level on your Omega?

In all seriousness I would have infinitely more time for somebody who ran a Sandero and a Kit car that amounted to the same value as the person who thinks they have 'made it' with their A1.

This discussion on PH disturbs me.

Same can be said of many East European backward economies though, it's a sign of the only status they can parade. Over-compensating.

I'll throw money at the Elise and my bikes thanks. This is a car to do a job for minimal cost. There is so much freedom in a car that you simply do not care about.

All the threads with people (rightly) upset about dings in carparks, or keying damage or low speed hit and runs at night; own a POS that you don't care much about and it all becomes so much easier.

I wince every time the Lotus picks up another stonechip. I'd be really upset if someone keyed it.
Someone bounced a fully laden trolley off the back of the SAAB last week, I shrugged and drove away.
