not very helpful, but just need to point out: white is a fad.
in reality white cars don't look good generally, they just look trashy. it will pass and white will become a detractor from value.
no need to argue, it's just an opinion; but I'm right and you know it.

Serious response - it very much depends on the car in question. Having seen it in the metal, white suits the Duster in a UN-chic sort of way. It's a colour that least suits big saloons in my opinion.
Not-so-serious response - you're wrong, and you know it.

has the Auto version appeared yet? - It's an outside runner for the other half's next car but would have to be an auto to be in with a shout.
Doesn't look like it from their website.Interesting website though.
By the time you spec your Duster with a few "nice to haves" it isn't nreally much cheaper than some other makes which come with those items as standard.
This car still is on the possible list, but a little lower now

There are no plans for auto's across the Dacia range of cars, in the UK at least. As for the facelift, I think it is due to be launched in Europe next year however we wont see it here until 2016.

well keeping it serious. I don't think it has been that long lived. There have always been a few white cars, and a few cars have really suited it. but over the past 5 years this fad seems to have gone into hyperdrive
and honestly I wrote that ^^^ before doing a google and the first result being:

Told you I was right!
Don't get me wrong, I think you have a point about the trendiness of white (I blame Apple. And the Rand Corporation). I'm just not convinced it's something that is popular due to novelty. It's a popular consumer choice for many products, not just boring kitchen appliances. And in certain automotive applications it looks really good - it's not always the paupers/misers choice!
Now silver tv's, there was a fad.

tbh i've had two white cars; but then I couldn't give a monkeys about the colour of my car. it's about the last requirement I have for a car unless it's something ridiculous like brown or pink. I'm not saying white cars will go, but the overwhelming popularity will. Colourful, and I mean really colourful will come along shortly. Recently the trend with blokes has been to stand out more, brighter, bolder, less worrying about blending in, and more about every having to be equally outstanding (ironic I know). Why people spend tens of thousands on a car then go for the blandest dullest most instantly forgettable colour is beyond me. bring on multicoloured, paintjobbed mental colours for cars. Not that I will get one, but they'll be here soon.
I hadn't noticed the silver TV one actually, but you're quite right there.
I did predict pink shirts disappearing and returning to the ridiculous, and men's cardigans returning to uncool. Was right on both of those.
my next prediction is those stupid little plimsols young blokes have started wearing. those will be gone in a year or two... or was that too obvious a fad to predict?
Quite surprised at the positive interest in the Dacia brand here on PH for what are essentially Renaults. Yet if this was sold in the UK as a Renault would there not be the usual comments of not going near one for fear of reliability and electrical issues?
I'm interested to know what makes Dacia different to Renault? Obviously price is a big factor but is it worth it if these new Dacia's break down as much as their Renault counterparts? I suppose only time will tell on that.
And I'm not anti Renault in any way, I've owned a couple in the past and quite liked them, but they don't generally have a great reputation.

well in the past year they have gone from 33/34 to 23/38, so getting a lot better, certainly above BMW, Audi, Volvo and Mercedes in the 2013 whatcar reliability survey.I'm interested to know what makes Dacia different to Renault? Today I've driven a 1999 Avensis SR, a Hyundai i30 Estate and a Dacia Duster.
The Avensis is my hack - 2.0 Petrol. 40MPG and 110k. The Hyundai is our work car. 1.6 Auto and 35MPG.
I drove a Duster Mid Range Diesel.
The Duster in the blue colour really does look smart. I wish the D U S T E R on the back was a little less 'pimp' but otherwise, on looks, I can't fault it.
The Diesel was actually very easy to drive. It's not a powerful car, but it's very capable. Around town you could almost do away with 1st gear, ratios felt close together at the lower end but I only really drove it for about 10 minutes.
Everything felt well put together, drove well, comfortable enough.
IMHO, it's a better bet than the i30 estate. More economical, inifintely more comfortable, more usable for kids and cheaper.
If I can get a midrange (I forget what they call the spec) diesel for £6k in 3 years I'll buy two.

I spotted a Lodgy MPV just recently, initially my brain automatically dismissed it as an ageing Espace but the badging and Romanian plates gave the game away.
Looked as decent and functional as the other Dacias.
If they ever start banging those things out over here for, say, £12k for the diesel, they could swipe a hell of a lot of customers from the competition - and if they whip out the back seats & windows and call it a van, even more so.

There's a big hole in the model line-up and that's the lack of a base model diesel. Cheapest Diesel 4x4 comes in at £13,695. The car Farmers, construction companies and the likes of local authorities with staff needing to access northern isolated rural areas would love to see is a Diesel in Access trim costing just under £12k.
Yes, but they do it deliberately. Whilst their marketing an extremely good value car, they're still in it to make money. Dacia fully expect the Lauréate to be the top selling model, because we're used to certain luxuries as standard now. Richard Hammond and others (rightly) indicate that to really have the last laugh, you need to buy an access and drive it until it's completely borked.
For me: I need to buy a diesel, so that leaves me with the choice of a midrange Ambiance or a range topper Lauréate. The difference is just £1600, and for that I get Air Conditioning, 4 Electric Windows, Alloy Wheels, Heated Electric Mirrors and some shiny bits. None of which I really need (the point is with these is you buy the car you need, not the one you want) but aircon is a Godsend here in the south when you have a summer like this, and with rain and 3 kids in the back the aircon means you have a chance of seeing out of the windscreen.
I'm not buying one of these for shiny. I want it to look as utilitarian and purposeful as possible. I'm also acutely aware that some of this car is unproven, so the less there is to go wrong the better.
Really what I want is an Ambiance with air con, but I know that's not how it works. And rightly so.

The problem there is Dacia at the top of the range with a few bells and whistles is at the sort of money the buyer could start looking at what discounts Skoda or Nissan are offering for the bottom end Yetis and Qashqais, find there's not much in it and take their cash elsewhere. For me: I need to buy a diesel, so that leaves me with the choice of a midrange Ambiance or a range topper Lauréate.
