So you have a 911 but also are "Keeping it real" with a Romanian budget POS warmed over leftovers and criticise anyone else as being a snob for getting something decent and declare them as being a prissy and snobby character from a 90s sitcom ?

Reminds me of the Pulp song "Common People", but its not roaches climbing the walls and calling your dad, its when it is all a bit st you can dig your 911 out !

I love the idea of these. Especially the base spec.

I fitted a Sony head unit into my BMW not long ago. £50 and it does Bluetooth, acts as a phone, usb etc.

The Beemer cost me £1000 the other day just to keep it on the road. Still needs servicing at another £300.

That's a 10th of the price of the Duster.

A possible buy when they extend the ULEZ and legislate my poor ancient 3 series off the road.

Just love the idea of little to go wrong and space to chuck stuff in the back.

They've successfully replaced Micras at the front of every long line of traffic, always bronze ones in my experience. They're the antithesis of opulent, fast transport so they're Ambrosia for the modern SUV haters here on PH. smile

When we were in Iceland recently we noticed two cars the locals used on their roads....Suzuki Swifts and Dacia Dusters....
We rented one in Iceland. It was brilliant on the F Roads, climbing gravel, wading through rivers, full on 4 wheel drifting at speed.

I did the same a few years ago, I really liked it.

I do wonder how they will hold up in the long run though. I know the early ones that came over here that were made in India suffered from rust, and the later ones made in Romania (I think, it might be Morocco) are a lot better put together with better rustproofing.

I remember looking underneath it at the floorpan and it seemed to just be painted metal. If I look under my 09 Twingo, or dad's 07 Laguna they seem really well protected in a rubbery underseal. No signs of rust on the Renault's yet at all.

Where have you guys been? Lots of love for well designed simple cars here.
Yup, that's a perfect example.

Nothing to prove and nothing to loose and zero flucks given about status or badge snobbery.

I'll have one too. smile

If there had been an auto option i’d have bought one for my wife to use. No point in splashing out a fortune on a car that well seldom get cleaned and that’ll take lots of horse and child related punishment.

If I lived somewhere hilly, with rough roads, river fords and bad winter weather, I'd have a Duster.

Living in the suburban lowlands, I've no need for one.

They might start at £10,995, but the cheapest 4x4 version seems to be £18,345. And I don't really see the point in a rugged, minimalist, go-anywhere 4x4 unless it has...err...4x4!

If you have to spend £18k to get into the 4x4 version, then you might as well stretch to £19k and get a Suzuki Jimny (which is infinitely cooler). Make a 4x4 version in Access spec for around £13k - then we're talking...

When getting a car serviced I had a mooch around a Dacia - my concern, too, was there seemed to be no protection in the wheelarches. Surely for something potentially being used off road it would be an idea to fit some cheap, plastic, wheelarch liners? Seemed to be fitted to the more expensive models. Without them and underseal I can see rust being a killer before anything else.

We sold my wifes Suzuki SX4 (4Grip) last year. It was an 08 plate, she had owned it 7 year, I used to crawl under now and again, that was just painted steel underneath. things like the cross member, suspension bits and more worryingly, the inner sills where they became inner wheel arch were serious rust. Not holed but only a matter of time.
The car before that was a Peugeot 306Hdi, that too had a lot of painted (more like undercoat than top coat) underneath, especially the boot area.

Classic PH, simpler and cheaper the car it must be better. You don’t want your nice expensive car because it drives well, it’s because your a badge snob.
My Dad looks after a couples house when they are away, they have one of these and ask my dad to use it when they are away.
He won’t, he thinks it’s cheap and garbage, having been in it I have to agree.
He is 75 and his petrolhead days are long over, and even he thinks it’s crap.
The usual PH waffle is being spouted here, we have even had a reference to someone owning one with money rofl
Another PH trope, everyone with money drives a st car.
Anyway, only two cars any good I have learned here, a 911 and a Dacia.
Who would have thought.

I too like the boggo spec 'UN special' with steel wheels and black bumpers. It reminds me of a Tonka toy.

I've never driven one, but they can't be worse surely than the 40 year old Landrover I drove where you had to saw at the steering wheel to keep it in a straight line. By any measure it was crap, but it had bucketloads of character.

The 4x4 version is very capable - took us up a couple of Welsh tracks that looked like only goats used.

Spot on, my mate had Panda 4x4; it was great fun to travel in - something so small and basic could do so much.
He was a drummer and carted around a full kit in the back. Always brought a smile...

Unless they have changed their options, the last time I looked the 4x4 version in basic spec was £2k more.

Maybe they have decided that the actual 4x4 is to be more up market, but yes the upper pricing would make you consider other makes.

I did a short test drive in a 2 wheel drive version and it did what it says on the tin. It's not a 3 series but it's nearly a quarter of the price.

I only mention 3 series as that's my BMW that I've had 22 years.
