Old Landie is one analogy; the other is the 2CV.
Car as car; simple and basic.

Like minimalist industrial design, there is a lot to love about that!
Just my view.
I agree.

My vote would go to a Mk2 Renualt 5 Campus 'tho. Everything you need and nothing you don't.

Classic PH, simpler and cheaper the car it must be better. You don’t want your nice expensive car because it drives well, it’s because your a badge snob.
In it's place and for its purpose, the Duster is brilliant.

I'm not sure why somebody would buy a 4x4 one if they live in Middle England suburbia.

Ps. Simple, cheap cars that drive well are great.

Not for me I’m afraid.

My sister in law had one and I thought it was awful. Steamed up like a bd every time it rained. She did her best not to use the A/C though because she was so preoccupied with fuel consumption. The price was about the only redeeming feature.

I am sure the Duster is not perfect. However I am probably being a bit mean comparing it to a Series Landrover.

After all, driving a Series Landrover is just slightly less pleasant than driving an angle grinder.

I know, I have owned a few and have a 1954 Series 1 at the moment.

The analogy to A 2CV/Renault 4 is very good. Both superb vehicles. I have just invested in a brand new Renault 4 chassis from Holland. Very Exciting.

You would never catch me in a Q2/Q5/Q7 ever. The modern equivalent of a Rover 213.

I, like others on here hired one and drive round Iceland in it, in winter. I will always have a soft spot for the Duster, it got the mrs and me to some amazing places through some savage weather and never missed a beat

Owned and loved 2 x series 3 landys, Citroën dyane, Renault 4 which I adored and a brace of fiat pandas, one a lovely 750l, and a brace of cinquecento sportings. Good few ford Ka including and you can mock all you like, a stunning wee streetka. Add a brace of 70s beetles which i wish id never sold and yup, I have had more fun in those simple cars than any of the fancier stuff I've owned. Giugiaro (spelling) always claimed the panda was his best and favourite design.

They kind of remind me of the old Honda HR-v we had to run around in a few years ago. Thoroughly enjoyable and equally ste in its own way. I often wonder if other cheap nasty 4x4's would be as fun as the HR-V, or if they were just unique in a strange way.

I like Dusters. Mate has one, tows his boat with his. The only thing I don’t like are the seats - v poor lumbar support, but v squishy/comfortable, otherwise.

I thought the peasant spec one of these was £8,995. When did they put the price up??

Outrageous.

Think that was back in 2013 smile

They do keep their price. Most are keepers with their owners having no intention of selling on.

I've got no interest in fast or expensive cars, I love cheap little cars e.g. the new Hyundai i10 N-Line is exciting me at the moment - it's a 100bhp, 1.0 turbo. Pure fun.

That looks great IMO; would love to see one in a dark metallic red alongside the black roof/upper bit!

Guilty pleasure I have always liked these. boxedin

There is something refreshing seeing a car you can buy with no frills, brutalist design and so utilitarian, basically a modern day Lada Riva - what is there not to like...and steel wheels are friggin' cool as!

Im tempted at 11k

What is the driving like with the 1.0 engine?

Is it happy enough or agonisingly slow and overtaking an issue?

It’s alright actually. Much better than the 1.6 non turbo that we used to fit, that was hard work!

I will reiterate that it really, really is worth spending the extra money for the essential spec.

Most people we sell Access models to come back wanting a stereo, speakers etc and wish they had aircon etc.

You’ll spend more upfront but you will get a vast majority of it back come resale time.
