There's some mention of them here: https://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&...
I get the impression that 1.6 & Prestige might be missing the point a bit.
Thanks. That's a helpful link.I get the impression that 1.6 & Prestige might be missing the point a bit.
I did do a search but guess the title didn't help much
Looking at 2 year old models the cost difference between the specs gets pretty narrow. SWMBO says we can only get an orange one which is probably more of a factor than the exact spec we go for.
Relatives have one - had a lift in it - nasty interior plastics, noisy (as it had to thrashed to make any progress), uncomfortable and was generally taken aback that a modern(ish) car that's still on sale could be that bad.
All down to your expectations and requirements I guess, would have thought just about anything else must be better if not cheaper.

I've been contemplating getting one so have read that linked thread in its entirety. The 1.6 petrol is definitely to be avoided as it sounds like it has to be worked very hard to get anywhere and just isn't worth it. The 1.2 or 1.3 Tce turbocharged engines are a much better proposition by all accounts. If buying second hand then the different in price between specs will become closer but I think on the whole the Access trim is a bit too sparse but the one above that is fine. Paying much more for anything beyond that is getting to the point when you've missed the point of the Duster I think. Having said that if it were me I'd want a 1.3Tce in Comfort trim.
Try and avoid the 1.6, it is slow, has no torque and has to be worked hard, fuel consumption isn't great as it has to be worked hard, I would go for the 1.3 130 in Comfort trim, Comfort is the sweet spot in the range with enough equipment for most people; sat nav reverse camera, alloys etc.
They are great cars, just honest, hard wearing, reliable and do the job.
Also if you get one in manufacturers warranty (3 years 60,000 from new) you should be able to extend it through a Dacia dealer to 5 years/60,000 miles for either £275.00 or £250.00 (price depends on when it was registered).
Ignore Dashnine.

Thanks all.
I took a run up to the Aberdeen Dealer today (not sure if I was allowed or not but I wore a yellow vest) primarily because they had 3 orange ones on the forecourt. 2 were the 1.6 engined Prestige models, both on 18 plates and this 1 litre one https://www.john-clark.co.uk/dacia/used-cars/12606... on a 20 plate with less than 2k miles which seemed quite new. I'd always thought I was "into" cars enough to know whether something was about the right price but am totally out of my comfort zone with Dacia.
The salesman was helpful and was steering me away from the 1.6 litre cars and agreed that the Comfort spec was probably the sweet spot.
I've got my head round the quality level of the car. We bought a new 1 litre Aygo back in 2018 and it's also fine for what it is. I think the Duster would be something similar and that's not a bad thing.

My wife chose a new Aygo over the Duster after driving both and commented that they were similar quality and as she wanted a cheap station car the Aygo is ideal to leave parked most of the day and not care about.I took a run up to the Aberdeen Dealer today (not sure if I was allowed or not but I wore a yellow vest) primarily because they had 3 orange ones on the forecourt. 2 were the 1.6 engined Prestige models, both on 18 plates and this 1 litre one https://www.john-clark.co.uk/dacia/used-cars/12606... on a 20 plate with less than 2k miles which seemed quite new. I preferred the Duster but this was her choice..

Oh well, in for a penny...
Paid a deposit today on a pre reg one. It was only registered a couple of days ago and is still sitting in the showroom. Orange, 1 litre, Comfort spec. Haven't driven one yet and physically haven't seen this one either but it should be delivered to me next week.
Don't know if I should be surprised or not but the whole remote buying thing was fairly seamless, made even easier by the fact that the salesman came across like a nice guy and and we quickly ended up working towards doing a deal without any posturing.
Wife likes the look with the side runners so they are on order as is the side protection parts.

I'll second that. It was the Throbber thread that convinced me to get mine.
A pre reg 70 plate Essential with the 1.0 triple engine with 10 miles on the clock for £10.5k
I've had V8s, my e36 for nearly 23 years, a Boxster and other great cars but I'm loving the Duster. It's not slowed me down on my drives out and commute, plus I think it's a nice place to sit.
And after those V8s it's nice to get 40mpg in heavy London traffic.

That Throbber thread was quite useful really as a single source of opinions of a few owners.
I'm part exchanging a Discovery 3 so it's probably a bit harder to know exactly how good a deal I got but to be honest the p/x value was what the top of what I was hoping for and the discount on the Duster was generous and I'm quite comfortable with the bit in the middle and how it's been resolved. Someone somewhere will end up with a good Discovery for the money and I've had a smooth transaction and have that new-car buzz.
I've still got 2 V8s, a V6 and a straight 6 in the garage alongside the Aygo and an ND MX5 so at least the Duster will have some company to share the driving duties and I'm sure it will all be good.

If you can, extend the warranty for £250 for an additional 2 years it's well worth doing just for peace of mind for very minimal cost. I'll ask the salesman about that when we chat at the start of the week since I probably imagine having the car for a while so would make sense. Gassing Station | Dacia | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
