I think it is rebranding on all Dacia cars, how very annoying as my car was apparently built this week. Much prefer the new logo, looks much more modern,

Only I could buy a car a week before the rebranding was announced.

They won’t be building any of the rebranded cars until the end of the year for deliveries probably early next year.

I called it.

Essential is back!

Bet it ain't as cheap as my one was though.

Liking that grey, and the logo, and the TFT dash but hang on!

I must not get suckered into all that crap again, I gave that all up hence why I bought my basic NATO white model with steel wheels.

No, this is clearly the next step in Renault doing a Skoda and increasing the prices so they are a couple of thousand less than the equivalent Renault. Obviously the Sandero, Stepway and Jogger were a massive increase in quality due to being based on the latest Clio platform, but I think a lot of people still have the same prejudices as they did with Skoda in the early days.

This is clearly Renault accelerating the move from Dacia being seen as a budget, no image brand to being a mainstream car.

I can't help but agree, there is definitely dome truth in this. I think saying its the new Clio platform actually doesn't describe how much better the new range is. Its new CMF platform with versions used in the Capture, Juke amongst others, much better and more flexible platform than before. The new interiors are much better too. The range right now is great but I hope after the Bigster they don't go too far the way Skoda did, their cars are all just VAG clones. I loved the Yeti and even liked the Roomster (a fan of quirky alternatives in general).

I wonder who will come along to fill the gap if Dacia do move up too much. MG have taken a different path and I'm not so sure there's an appetite for LADA with everything going on. Shame Peugeot got bought, they could have brought Talbot back (new Rancher anyone?) I'm surprised Stelantis hasn't gone after Dacia with one of there brands or sub brands considering how well Dacia cars are selling.

I don't think there will be anyone along to replace them, there is clearly so little money in producing cheap cars that nobody else will want to enter that market. Citroen produce a cheap version of the C3 named the You which is £12,995 and available to order via their website only. Other than Dacia (who have steadily increased prices over the last 18 months) this is the only other budget car I can think of.

Every other brand is moving towards full EVs, so they are not going to want to create ICE cars for a market where there is little profit and will vanish in 7 years time anyway.

I think the whole budget market is going to evaporate over the next few years as Dacia go more mainstream and increase prices to match.

The only "cheap" cars I can see on the horizon is if a Chinese company start selling their EVs in the UK. The first company to sell a decent EV at a decent price will clean up.

EVs don't have to be expensive. They are only expensive if they are build to have a very long range, or because manufacturers insist on filling them with electronic gadgets and passive safety. Things Dacia don't do (at the moment). The Dacia Spring is a very cheap, competent, and high selling electric car, shame we don't get it.
There will always be a place for a budget brand, always has, always will as some people prefer new to used. Its why Dacia are clearing up and can't build cars fast enough.

New branding for the dusters.

Really like the new logo on it.

Yes I prefer the new logo, does look more modern and less Rover.

Think I'll enquire about how much the new front grille costs.

Not a huge fan of the new colour but does look better than primer grey that everyone seems to swoon over.

I doubt old and new Essential are the same spec, especially in this country. I'd imagine the new Essential will be much better equipped.

The other trim names seem a bit pretentious though. I suppose Prestige was already a bit fancy for Dacia.

Essential
Expression
Journey
Extreme

With journey being the highest spec and extreme ideal for getaways, whatever that means.

The new logo on the front reminds me of the DMC Delorian one minus the 'M' and the steering wheel looks very 'empty'. The shield badge filled it much better.

I imagine the dealers will be delighted at the costs to update everything in the showroom...

They'll be another brand at some point to fill the void, timing is key.

I managed to buy a Hyundai at the point when they became ok but before getting too posh. Same with the Dacia.

Who's next?

I see the base Jogger is now £16,645 vs the original £14,999 - not sure how the spec has changed but that's quite a jump in a few months.

If she didn't need an auto I would have ordered a Jogger for Mrs Emeye.

My son's girlfriend has just had a Sandero delivered and I'm very impressed for the money - she ordered it much earlier this year.

There isn't any others.

Maybe we'll see someone like TATA coming in at the bottom, designed and built in India.

I bet the lone importer of Lada is having a pretty hard time at the moment. laugh

Agree on the steering wheel, would have looked better with the DC logo centrally mounted.

There are plenty of opportunities for companies to bring back old brands or create sub brands. Its been very successful for some.

But if there is no money in it due to the shortage of components and the price of raw materials why would they bother? The Dacia Sandero Stepway Essential was £10,995 when it was first announced 18 months ago, today that car costs £13,795.

Budget brands are no longer budget brands if they need to increase the price by 25% in 18 months.

Plus, when there is a shortage of components they would be better off using these to build more expensive cars which generate more profits. And as I said, ICE is banned in 7 years so that would be a waste of time when your business has such a short switch off point.

No profit, no point.

If everyone keeps increasing prices and moving upmarket there will be room at the bottom. 13.5k is still cheap for a new car compared to others. Cars with basic specs which aren't crammed full of electronics and active safety are still very apps g to many. Less crap fitted, cheaper the car and as I said, electric cars don't need to be expensive. I personally don't think ICE will be banned, not entirely

Has anyone got any recommendations for aftermarket steel wheels?

I like these from 4x4 tyres but despite popping up when you google Dacia Duster steel wheels they're the wrong fitment and the ones they do for the Duster don't really float my boat.

I found some Renault steelies that fit, from a Talisman.

This website has all the stuff that'll fit.

https://www.wheelfitment.eu/car/Dacia/Duster%20(20...

..and a gratuitous pic. I'm still waiting on the tyres to arrive..... (BFGoodrich Ko2 with white lettering!)

These one aren't standard though, I had them banded 1 1/2" and then powder coated.
