Hi,
Helping my elderly neighbour source their next car, the car they liked the most after a test drive is the Dacia Sandero Stepway in expression TCE 90 trim.
The retail price is £16,295 plus £650 if they choose a non white colour.
I can get a small discount for cash, £16,100 is the best cash price i can find although I have only tried 3 local dealers.
The issue is the finance and the cost of it, Dacia finance is 9.9%!
Their current car does 4k a year mileage so a PCP is ideal, they want to lease this time as they like the idea of having a car under warranty and changing it every 3 years.
I tried carwow to get a decent pcp deal but the 9.9% finance kills any carwow discount.
So my question.
When is the Dacia retail finance next up for review?

Best thing you could do is persuade them that a three year old car with 12k miles is anything but worn out, and they could save a load of money by keeping one for much longer.
Even if they pay for an extended warranty or some repairs it’s way cheaper than resetting the depreciation each time.

I had to go and actually check that. When I was at Dacia 6 months ago it was 6/7.9% APR (one of those!) but you’re right, it is 9.9%. Amazing
It really doesn’t make them that cheap any more.
My first advice would be, don’t do it, nothing will ever be as cheap as the car they have, if they really in do 4k a year, they’re just throwing money down the drain.
If they insist, then stick with white, go for an Sandero rather than a Stepway (there’s really hardly any difference!)

One question to the contributor who mentioned the Sandero and Sandero Stepway are similar.
I must admit i havent had chance to drive the new stepway, is it simply ride height or is there other differences?
Is the stepway roof stretched to make it more spacious inside?
Is the stepway body length stretched to make it more spacious?
Is the boot the same size?

The body of the Sandero and Stepway are identical.
There are no changes to any dimension, inside or out apart from wheel arch extensions, roof bars and a ride height change (40mm higher) I believe.
They are mechanically identical as well.
The Stepway provides nothing over a Sandero apart from slight aesthetic changes and the 40mm ride height difference, which is hardly worth the bother IMO

Someone at Dacia must read the forum
The APR across the board has been reduced to 6.9%
Still high but more in keeping with the majority of other manufacturers
£9141 for 3 years in expression trim white colour on a pcp with the minimal 6,000 miles a year

Dacia APR should reflect the price of its cars, it should be ultra competitive, at current interest rates or a touch higher but no more.
Dacia has competition from a number of brands offering cheaper cars than the sandero.
The same is true of the Duster.
They are not the bargain they think they are.

Dealer called my neighbour this week to tell him they are now offering £500 deposit contributions on a PCP for a Sandero stepway.
In the past month we have had -
APR reduced from 9.9% to 6.9%
£500 deposit contribution
Still looks expensive, Dacia must have woken up to the fact they are not competitive on pricing

Looking at the Dacia website it looks like they have hundreds of them that are either in stock or available in the next few weeks.
Looks like they might be struggling to sell them at the moment, I just think they look expensive for what they are now. Especially if second hand prices are falling and you can get something really nice second hand from another manufacturer for the same money.
I would imagine they sell very few of the Essential Sandero as the Expression is only £1000 more and comes with way more equipment. Also if you put down a £5K deposit it works out a whole £2 cheaper a month for the Essential over the Expression.
I don't think they are doing the £500 dealer contribution on the Essential so you would have to be mad to buy it to essentially save £500.

If that’s for the hassle of right hand drive or the £ conversion I’m not sure, not really any other significant reason for the price increase compared to France, Germany, etc.

I have a Duster bought new early 2021 for £10500.
Same model is now over £17500 not 3 years later.
I love my car but I certainly wouldn't have bought it at its current price.
I'm sure it's the PCPers that have helped with rapidly rising car costs in the past few years.
Not looking at the cash price and just thinking that an extra £100 or £200 a month ain't bad.

i was in a different Dacia dealers this week, new manufacturer offers from the 4th Jan.
They are not selling many cars at the moment, as is the case in most dealers.
The sales staff agreed they need a stand out APR rate come Jan to get them shifted; they were having to pre reg some vehicles this month.

Jan 24 - 4.9% APR with a 25% deposit for 24 months or 7.9% all other terms
Needless to say, they are going to lease a Citroen C3 aircross which works at at under £2.5k per year

The MG is a cracking car. Better than the Sandero I feel, for the warranty alone. Add to that MG are about to replace the 3 and they have a glut of 3s about to be seriously discounted thousands under a Sandero.
