Also, any idea what the two little pod things are ont he Hyundai at the rad opening, maybe lights with covers on, is it some kind of Nissan Sunny cooling thing? They seem to be running them all the time here

A good quality entry at the top end, quite surprisingly only 2 of the top 10 have competed here before. I still think it might come down to a battle between the 3 VW Polos.

Personally, I'm heading up there on Friday evening for a variety of duties behind the scene, which I'm really looking forward to.

I’ll be watching the Saturday evening stage and probably up at Bradfield on the Sunday. Nice to see the event back on!

Might see you there - I'll be there for the first and third passes through. Somehow ended up having to go over to the stables in Ardleigh at 1:30, exactly when the 2nd stage there happens.

Can highly recommend the Ragmarsh Farm burger van if it's there again - superb local butcher.


Oh and a word of warning. If you're coming to Bradfield, take care when driving down Mill Lane to the viewing area. There's a couple of massive potholes and a big damaged section of road where a drain is blocked and overflowing. Could easily bugger up your wheel or suspension if hit with any speed.
The council have known about it for 2 years but won't fix it.

Rally Croatia testing out drivers skill on foggy wet muddy roads with limited tyre choices having to be made in service areas miles from the stage. Rovanpera dropping time with a puncture. Neuville finding some pace.

I subscribed to WRC+ again for the first time in a year or two... it amazes me how they STILL haven't bothered fixing the frequent problems that have been happening since it started however many years ago.

I guess some things never change, no wonder WRC struggles to compete for global audiences with amateur promotion that can't even run a reliable streaming service.

NZ rally photos are always fantastic!!

And one agrees about WRC+; this service isn't free, there's no excuse for these continuing problems. The sport doesn't help itself, and can't really complain about lack of interest when the product isn't up to it.

Anyway, looks like a dramatic ending to the event; will come down to the Power Stage; Tanak 1.4 sec ahead of Rovanpera going nearly 30 secs quicker on the previous stage.

I guess if peopel keep paying for a sub standard service and dont complain they wont change anything. I would ask for refunds etc, if they dont know or you dont just say enough, they will just keep taking money and making excuses

Rovanpera for the title I think. Elfyn’s moment has passed. This is the year that Rovanpera blends speed with experience but unfortunately Elfyn is still making too many mistakes, I don’t think he’ll be able to contain Rovanpera over the course of a season from now on.

I had a great weekend helping out on the Corbeau Seats rally, didn't see much action tho!


Saturday was helping supervise the recce (make sure competitors used the tracker, only did 2 runs etc) and Sunday was help resolve various minor issues with equipment, traffic, residents etc.

All-in-all it was brillant event put in by a fantastic team. Here's a few photos...

As a local resident near the main spectator stage, I have the say the actual event was great, but the preparation and communication was pisspoor. No warnings of impending road closures on many stages and confusing information to residents on the closed roads.

Biggest concern was the seeming lack of communication between marshals at times. Was out the front of the Strangers Home pub in Bradfield (sharp 90 right bend through large straw bales made excellent viewing) and a Fiesta completely misjudged it, hitting a bale head on. Bale did it's job and stopped the car, but the next cars weren't being slowed down at all, even though your colleagues were trying to manhandle the damaged bale out the road.

Do you know why SS9 was cancelled? The Facebook live feed didn't say and there's nothing obvious on the social media feeds for the event.

We'll be in touch with the liaison officer again in a week or two - I'm on the parish council and he'd been to a couple of our meetings. I'm really keen for it to happen again but can see there being more local objections if they don't sort out more information about road closures.
Whether that's down to the organisers or Essex Highways, I don't know, but someone screwed up badly. Even on the day, there was nothing to warn people about the road being closed until you actually go to the barriers - normally there will be the vague 'Road Closed Ahead' signs which Highways randomly throw around the place.

I was one of the RLO’s working on the rally and I have to say there were Road Ahead Closed well ahead of the actual road closed, unless the stage exit and entry, followed by Road Closed signs.

There are notices out up and Parish Councils, as well as the County Council communicated, plus residents on the route of the special stages and notices to those that life on roads that join the stages.

I have to say all my residents that I spoke to pre-event and during its running throughly enjoyed it. The only issues I saw were non-residents wishing to take a “short cut” on the roads we were allowed to use and unfortunately for 1 day they had to take the long way round. I had one run in with a rude, entitled, gentleman who believed he had the right to drive on a road that was closed. Shame he never hung around to speak to the Police who were ensuring the law was being upheld.
