Anyone know anything about the towing pack - my buddy reckons they can fit the hitch but they cant/dont have the electrics available?
I thought they came pre-wired which is one of the Grenadier's great design points, See here 15m45s

Price list quotes £600 for "Fixed Towball and Electrics" (and offers other options for a NATO hitch or a jaw and ball combo) and the configurator shows:

I get the feeling a certain amount of de-contenting has happened prior to final launch.

With the increase in component costs that makes much sense. Watching the Harry's Garage at GMA for the T33 Spider video, GM confirms they've seen a 40% increase in some component costs. How do these small volume manufacturers manage this? So £600 for a rear towing kit all-in is not too bad.

Ineos rejected the last lot of tow balls as there could not take the full nose weight without a chance of failure. The whole network is waiting for 10,000 new tow balls from South Africa.

(Including me - no towing until they turn up).

Isn’t that a standard bolt pattern as used on, say, half the trucks in the world? Is there something specific about the Ineos ball?

I wouldn't have thought so. From the tow balls I've seen so far they look like std Bradley Dixon Bate units...but there are plenty of low cost/Chinese grade units on the market of questionable quality. There are some things in life one never buys the low cost option...tow balls are one.

My understanding is the S-Value is too low, (nose-weight on the ball); the Grenadier has an S-Value of 350kg, where most Dixon Bates hitches are limited to 250kg - 300kg. They do have hitches with a 350kg S-Value, but buying one is not easy at the moment.

That makes sense, most 2bolt balls are 200-250kg. 4bolt units are 350kg. Odd that Ineos didn't just talk with Dixon Bate first and spec' up std 4bolt 350kg units as they're only £200-£240 rrp/unit.

Agree about not buying cheap. The post above made it sound as if Ineos was using a custom ball, rather than a (hight quality) standard part.

Gotcha, thanks. IIRC, s weight is 10% of aggregate towing weight (i.e. 350kg for the Ineos). And again IIRC that's a pretty common size, hence my surprise there was a problem. But perhaps there really are only 1 or 2 underlying reputable OEMs for this stuff.

I think one drove past me in Kirkcudbright yesterday although it's quite hard to distinguish from a Defender that's been restored, revamped, upgraded.

The best he could come up with was some wobbly plastic on the tailgate rear door. The car is a Walt’s wet dream and if it had a landy badge on it he wouldn’t be able to contain himself.

The rear seat trimming was terrible. He said they were Recaro seats but I assume not their trimmers? Baggier than a granddad's ballbag.

Saw one on the M6 the other day.
Looked like a kit car.

By contrast, there’s been one in our village all week, parked next to both old & new Defenders + assorted other JLR wares. Looks very smart in a G-wagen and old Defender had a baby sort of way smile Makes an old Defender look very flimsy. I can imagine them looking fresh for years.

It looked like it had the optional seat covers on them.

Harry Metcalfe has one to test (it’s on his Instagram) so if you wait a bit we’ll get a review from him on Harry’s Garage or Farm.

Saw my first one yesterday, an off cream colour example.

Looked like an oddly proportioned kitcar defender.

The funniest thing from that video is the Ineos and urban line.
Urban make terrible body kits and oversize wheels for stuff so I can’t wait to see a 84 grand “utility” truck with a body kit and spoiler on 23” wheels.
I’m sure that’s definitely going to go down well with the folks who proclaimed it to be the second messiah.

That would explain it. Thanks.

There was one on YT I caught last night and I thought it was a wind up. Total comedy adenoids. Half these serious outdoor, offroad adventurers look to be at huge risk just in their back garden of being made a squirrel's bh.
