thumbs up for your attention to detail, really sets it apart in build quality and finish. Saw your car on the autosport int. show in birmingham! First thing that caught my eye was the very nice chrome finish on the chassis and suspension. I asked the people at the stand about it and they said it was powder coating. May I ask where you had your chassis and suspension A-arms coated in this absolutely stunning chrome powder coating.
Hi,

Yes the chassis and arms are all powder coated, not wet spray. The chome effect finish is a patented process and formulation owned by a company in Norfolk. It has the best finish I have seen. The company is called Aerospray and the process is quite expensive but very hard wearing and obviously a deep finish

Small update.

Currently on with the electics. Using the Dash2, which will be getting oil pressure, oil Temp, fuel level and speed from their hall effect sensor direct to the dash and an interface cable between that and an Omex 600. Will be using Omex race spec harness and monitoring/using map sensor for plenum pressure, air temp sensor (for plenum inlet) and water temp sensor. Will be using the dash4 pro and a data logger after IVA.

Lights ignition etc I have to confess I am having help with, as electrics do little for my amusement confused

Hopefully should be getting close to being finished end of next week - then off to be run-in, mapped etc for maximum performance evil

Car is due back to me tomorrow from being wired, and RTR have done a gorgeous job of the loom. Purchased a new Rotrex 30/94 supercharger today and booked the Rolling road at Northampton Motorsport for March 28th. Lots to do in the next 2 weeks before it gets run-in, mapped and power runs !!

Loom pics to follow ASAP

Well, cars been back for about 2 weeks from being wired and I have frantically been working trying to get it fully assembled ready for the rolling road. I am really hoping to get it to Northampton motorsport (but I am not going to cut corners !!) next week as its already been good driving weather - fingers crossed.

The closer I seem to get to the end, the more bits/brackets/modifications I need to make !!! I am sure that rings a few bells with many

After the rolling road, then obviously straight to the IVA, so at the moment the car seems to have more bits removed than fitted !!

Used the Zircoflex ceramic heat shielding which is a bit of a pain to fit neatly, but it should do the job well. Also put it on the chassis bars near to the exhaust manifold:

Engine bay now fully assembled. Although I have had all the parts for some time, this is the first oportunity to fully assemble. It is a bit of a tight squeeze but it all fits with no interference. Very pleased with the outcome as their will be no cover over the engine !

Also had some new front top wishbones made to get more negative camber which I have had chrome coated and fitted. Car is now at Northampton Motorsport for wheel alignment/corner weighting and should be run-up next week hopefully - fingers crossed !!

Time for an update.

Quite a bit has happened since the last post. Car is now wired with an omex 600 and bespoke full race harness, and this week we got it running !!

This has been quite a milestone and I was very nervous/anxious as the car has been built with totally new components, but all has gone well. Engine fired well, clutch and gearbox were very smooth.

First two dyno sessions were used to run the car in and the third session we had a few electrical gemlins which most of the time was spent fixing. We then changed the oil and spent 20 mins running up to speed/temp and adjustments on mapping. As we were running out of time we decided to put in quick power run. This was the first one we had done :

Very happy bunny !!

Their is possibly still more to come as the de-cat pipe is not fitted in this run and there is still some further exploring/tweeks to be done, but I am happy. Will update after next runs.

Great build and fantastic attention to detail!

I see from one of the pics you have F1 style mirrors. What are you going to use for IVA?
Yes the mirrors will fail. For the IVA I will be using R1 mirrors.

Fantastic Mabbs, I share your delight, my guess is that the 300 point is what you cannot resist aiming for, good luck, can I have a drive please?
Thanks Stuart. Yes, in the back of my mind over the 300 BHP mark would have always been nice, but looks easily realistic now !!

Yes you are more than welcome to have a drive. It will be at the MEV curborough sprint day this year - just be gentle !!!

Well, car went to IVA today and ............................. it failed frown

There was a few small issues which are easy to rectify, but the main reason is that it was too loud !!!

Even though my exhaust had been removed and another silencer with heavy baffling fitted, the whine of charger, whistle of the dump valve and the air intake noise put it way over

We are now looking into reducing the noise level with extra wadding etc, and car is booked in for the re-test on Thursday - fingers crossed

All be it tight, still looking like the car in it's totally completed state will be at Newark

Many thaks for the help and advice. I am hoping we now have it quite enough to meet requirments. Have removed the dump valve as this was under slight relief at 4000 RPM, put some more wadding down the ram-air inlet and in the exhaust and seems to be sufficient. Fingers crossed we get a pass in the morning - if so it's off to Newark the weekend !!

Yes we have a pass woohoobeer

Sailed through the second attempt. The guys at RTR did a superb job and were very careful and respectful of any modifications needed to gain the pass.

Very happy boy.

Will be spending all hours now getting it ready for Newark. There is a hell of a lot to do but it will be done to it's full glory.

Again superb service as Paul after coming back from the IVA, completed all the forms and shot off down to the DVLA to submit all the documents so it registered ASAP. He even gave them a self addressed 1st class envelope to speed it all up to the maximum. All in a days work at RTR

I may be all road legal by next week if the DVLA get their finger out. Just one more dyno session at Northampton Motorsport for full power runs and it's done

See you all at Newark come rain or shine driving

My appologies. The car passed Thursday midday and I was there when it came back from it's IVA pass until as late as possible, and then again on the Friday from 06:00 hrs, when they opened,(I live 1 1/2 hrs drive away) till RTR shut, but did not manage to get it finished. As per usual, their was a lot more for me to get done than I though. I am truley gutted that I did not get it their on time frown

It will be completed next week and hopefully the DVLA will have sent the documents through so I will be fully road legal.

Again sorry for not getting it their on time, but it will definatly be at all the future events, starting with Goodwood festival of speed in a couple of weeks, all the MEV meets, Donington Kit car show etc, and some other smaller events closer to me,

Not quite at 600 BHP/T yet, but very close driving

I have another dyno session booked for tomorrow as the car is now in, should we say non IVA mode, so we will see how it performs. Will up date ASAP with the further dyno runs from tomorrow and some pics of the completed car.

We are all fully legal now and done about 50 miles on the road so far. Has been very nice to drive, very loud, and something I am going to need to get used too nuts

First real outing this weekend and had a good 'shake down' on the car. MEV owners group anual meeting at Curborough was a great day. Good weather, great company and the car was faultless. Very happy with the car and it's performance, although I very much doubt I explored all it's potential !!

Car will be featured in the next 2 editions of CKC magazine. It's been a great experience building my first kit car and now having driven the car (331 miles to date !!) it just gets better driving

Hi All,

Slight funny tern of events but car has now been sold frown

I have another project to possible start next year so as it was coming to the end of the summer I thought I would tentitvly put an advert up - sold in 2 days. Mixed feelings but needs must and at least it free's up some money to build again.

Just thought I would post this new clip of the MEVabusa. It has just had its first full shake down with the full footage to be released soon:

Looks like a fun bit of kit driving
