Thank you for your interest gentlemen. I have to admit I never had any intention of creating a modern themed version but now I have seen one with white alloys and purple body I love the idea.
For those wishing to see our demo car it will be at Sywell Classic 28th/29th Sept(next weekend) and Exeter kit cars show 26th/27th Oct then NEC classic on the 15/16/17th November. I am off to Croydon now to display tonight in a hotel which means I am not at Blyton, hope you guys enjoy.

What does the finished car actually weigh?
Not a lot which is why the performance even with the original MX5 set up will be pretty sharp. With a replacement lightweight alloy six cylinder or V8 the performance will be electrifying. Obviously serious consideration needs to be given to adjusting the running gear to accept such a change but that is the route I will be following once I get three Kit Cars currently in build finished and I go and see Stuart with my pals to build a few of these. My understanding is that the current cars weight is around 15 CWT all up.What does the finished car actually weigh?
Someone of the mev owners forum has polished the cam cover and manifold of the mx5 engine which looks really good. I imagine there's space for a supercharger which would be in keeping with the "old Brit sportscar" theme.
Stefan: which lightweight Ali engine would you use and what's its bhp vs weight?

Earlier in the thread I suggested either a BMW 6 or the 2.0l straight 6 from then IS200 lexus both inline (longitudinal) with gearbox to suit. The lexus is about 165bhp std and the bmw go from 150 for the 2.0l to 325bhp for the m3. Be careful which BMW as some of the older ones are steel blocks. If you search BMW Unixnerd he has some good info on his page on engine specs.
As for V8's again the Lexus 4.0l or 4.3l with a supra box would be good or a good old rover v8 with quad webers for that period feel.

Without discussing this matter with the designer, Stuart Mills, in some detail and at some length and with a careful examination and assessment of the car and talking it through with several of my motor racing engineer acquaintances, as yet I do not know. Kit Cars that are as well conceived and designed as this do not come on the market often. In fact kit cars this good are very rare. The car is beautiful. The car as it is in its current form is clearly an outstanding and easily built concept, which in itself is a remarkable achievement. This is an exceptionally difficult combination to achieve in a kit car. Stuart has produced a thought provoking machine which creates a strong sense of history and provenance with its very attractive and shapely appearance. The existing car offers excellent handling and a chassis designed to take the components used. Considerable thought and planning would be needed to assess the full consequences of altering the balance, weight and power of any of the major components in the car in this way and the probable consequences carefully estimated before actually making the decisions.
Because I am a real petrolhead I would like a high output V8 of minimal weight to work in this project. But I have already owned several kit over the years cars which have been virtually undrivable until modified because the builders have altered major components without thinking things through. Putting right many of the cars that I have bought over the has been an instructive process. I would prefer not to risk that in a car by doing that myself and therefore I will take due care. I am nuts but I have learnt from experience.
