Side impact protection in kits is better provided by planting the right foot firmly and having ample oomph to move out of the way.
What scares the hell out of me is getting rear ended in the Skunk. Behind the passenger is the swingarm. A 100mm square tube of 4mm steel. There's nothing to stop a rear impact from pushing it through the passengers hips and kidneys.
The driver doesn't have to worry about recovery from such horrific injuries. Immediately behind the driver sits the aluminium fuel tank. There is no cage or metalwork protecting the tank from a rear impact.
Getting shunted isn't something I like to dwell on , but then who wants to drive a ?
Same in the Rush Mike, they have tried to address side impact and roll over but completely forgot the rear. Behind me I have the de-dion axle and, well nothing really! Fuel tank in this chassis is in the centre, not behind me and its there for no other reason then weight distribution,(and on my car its good @ 51%/49% rear/front).What scares the hell out of me is getting rear ended in the Skunk. I do know of one owner that has addressed this by ripping out the Dax design and fabricating his own. This includes roll over, side and rear impact.

In the interests of safety, we must increase the gap between us and the car behind by driving much much faster. Speed saves lives.I do know of one owner that has addressed this by ripping out the Dax design and fabricating his own. This includes roll over, side and rear impact.

Always had a soft spot for these and I don't really know why, I normally lust after performance orientated things like the Ultima.headrush said:
You really don't see enough Malone's about - always thought it was one of the prettiest reverse trikes
Thanks! It's difficult to get a straight answer out of Jerome when you ask "How many?". From what I can gather, about a dozen chassis were produced.
The Malones have three, a proto at the back of their shed under a pile of crud. The red one has a 900cc Diversion engine, the other is a Fazer 1000.
One of Jerome Malone's friends has what I think is the first kit. It was yellow gel coat but is now painted blue. It's running a very old 1100cc Gixxer. I have a feeling it was an air cooled engine.
There is a green one up near Birmingham running a 900cc diversion.
They made a 1300cc V-Max powered Skunk that was exported to America. It was auctioned on ebay ~10 years ago. Rumour has it that the new ower wrote it off very shortly after purchase.
Next off the line was my one, powered by a 2002 R1.
Shortly after my chassis was produced, Malone decided to change the name to the F1000.
There is a blue Fazer 1000 in the Torquay area that was finished and is maintained by Rob at Mirach cars.
There's a metallic blue car in Cumbria.
Finally for road going cars, there are one or possibly two that were finished by Andy at AB racing, one of which was due to be painted in Ford RS "lairy green".
I know of a couple of others that are to the best of my knowledge unfinished kits.
