Tribute have a build agent,
They are called Nubodi Automotive, based in Reading, they built Smash's car on here, it may be worth giving them a call and see what they would charge.
Now that's interesting, thank you, @Smash and thank you for the photo's of the blue one. I see a plan developing. They are called Nubodi Automotive, based in Reading, they built Smash's car on here, it may be worth giving them a call and see what they would charge.
I'm very tempted to build one of these too. Black with a red interior, some chrome trim, maybe wire wheels, wooden steering wheel and knob, open gate long-throw gear lever, old school bucket seats and quad straight pipes for the classic race sound.
As for badges I'd be tied between Ferrari ones (and just not boast about it being real to people who aren't fools) or classic BMW badges (which would then confuse people)

I saw this car at Stoneleigh and it looked impressive. it's the Auto Mirage and as far as I know (website) has it's own purpose built chassis and is not a body panel replacement, like the tribute. This gives you more scope for an original style interior rather than modern!! Z3 and looks more accurate. In my book if you're going to build a replica build one and not a lookalike. Having said that some people are happy with something that features styling from say a 250 or california, but is obviously not.
The UK kit car industry has produced hundreds of cars, some, that have really questionable styling and look as though the designers were optically challenged yet always seemed to find at least a few buyers.
I suppose it's like anything in life you pays your money you make your choice and if you're happy it doesn't matter what anyone else thinks.
For me it would be the mirage version, however I've got my eye on a Shelby Daytona, or Lister Bell Stratos.....atfer I've finished the Ultima .
From what I can tell the tribute and mirage are totally different cars aimed at different markets that happen to look similar to a classic Ferrari.
Tribute is a body panel swap onto a BMW z3 car that dies not need IVA and can be built for around £10k. The mirage is all bespoke, still using BMW running gear (330i) but with a dedicated chassis and interior and needs an IVA and is aimed at the top end cobra buyer c£75k for home build.
About badges, great to have a good looking replica and in the uk the copyright laws do not seem to be enforced for replica cars, but beware if you want to use you car else where as there have been reports or cars being seized and crushed under counterfeiting laws. I would design my own badges and name and put them, no confusion then.
On a similar theme I saw this car last week - http://www.historicautopro.com/1972-marciano-268a- - absolutely stunning but interestingly it is very Ferrari in styling but dies not try to pass itself off as one. This is the way I would go.

I have been seriously looking at these and think I may go for a DNA 250 California for the full Ferris Beuller look, I have even found a retro "save Ferris" sticker for it.
I definitely would put Ferrari badges on it 1) it looks right to me and is a "tribute" I am not trying to fool anyone but don't see the harm 2) it would wind up those purists that seem to say they like the car but feel it is ruined by the badges....as if 3 or 4 tiny badges can ruin how it looks, it is just their Ego that is offended, nothing else.
I cannot ever own a real 250 California, even a big lottery win would not afford one unless it was £10m plus and the ONLY thing we bought was just that 1 car...which would be daft. So why not get it as close as I can in looks and enjoy it.
I have looked at BMW v8 swaps and e36 M3 swaps but do not think it would be worth the effort and extra cost as the car probably isn't the one to enjoy that power in, even the brakes would not fit well under the 15 inch looky like wheels. I had a Z3m and it was a good car but the 2.8 will be enough for this.

£75,000 !!!Someone will pay £75,000 to build a kit car themselves, complete with the inbuilt throttle delay that affects all BMWs
How does a madman get hold of £75,000 ?

Thanks Jeff, that is sad to hear, I much preferred the California styled front and rear lights.
I agree,The DNA one though has been well thought out and done to a fantastic standard, you would be hard pushed to reconise the BMW underpinnings, they do the full interior upgrade which also looks like the real deal.
Thread resurrection and all that, but these are brilliant and I'm well and truly smitten with what is probably one of the most beautiful cars ever made for a fraction of an original.
Please can someone point out to me what the obvious differences are between the original (and, perhaps, the Mirage kit) and the Tribute kit? I know that some have strong opinions but I'm not certain I can really tell....
There is what appears to be a tribute for sale at £39k but is it strong money? I think it is absolutely stunning.....

It is a Tribute kit so £39k is indeed strong money for a BMW Z3 with a plastic bodykit (was a cost of around £5-6k mentioned above for the kit?).
I'd like to see more photos to see how good it is.
I'd really like to buy a turn key car but it would need to be pretty special for £39k. I'd like to see more photos to see how good it is.
The kit is not the total cost though, You could very easily pay the same amount again to have the kit fitted and properly gapped with fibre glass to make all the shut lines look right and then prep for paint and have it painted well.
Then you have all the other incidentals. Wheels and tyres, lights, grilles, interior etc...
I am going to allow £20k min to buy a donor, buy the kit and have it painted and buy a few bits for it. Although I have just seen a 49,000 mile Black 2.8 wide body with BMW service right through and the right colour interior etc.. for £10k which would be a lovely donor.

Ferrari probably wont sue them for passing off as it would give some credence
How is it registered as a 250?
Is it missing chrome bumpers?
