185/60/14?

Hi guys, been nearly 4 years since my car bowed out in style in a competition, but not far from being back in action! I need some new general street tyres, used to used 185/60/14 Yoko 21R which were perfect but seem to no longer be available? What alternatives are there ( not List 1b semi -slicks, have them ) for road biased tyres. Car weighs 440kgs

I'm running my Caterham on 185 60 14 Uniroyal Rain experts and I'm pleased with them. They give good grip in poor conditions, and plenty of warning when they are close to the limit.

I'll be interested to see what responses you get, Lee. I might be looking for something similar in the (hopefully) not too distant future!, albeit fro an 800 kg car.

I'd be looking at Vred Sportracs, Uniroyal RainExperts, Goodyear EfficientGrip Performance or maybe Dunlop BlueResponse, but not really sure how any would go on such a light car.

Toyo T1-Rs are also available in 195/55/14 which might be worth a try if they'll fit your rims and won't foul on anything.

Might be worth looking on the TVR S and MX5 sections for what people use in 60 profile tyres.

You can get Nankang NS-2Rs in 185/60/14, but I guess that's a bit trackway, isn't it?

I've got NS2R's in that size on my kit car, I've got the medium compound, have not used them in the damp or on a track yet but they are great on the road.
They warm up quickly and really stick to the road.

Another possible might be Maxsport RB5's - on their website it says they will cut them to a wet pattern if that's what you want, Lee.

Yoko do still make A021r's, don't they - it's just they're not e-marked any more, so can't be sold for use on the road.

Whether or not you can use them on the road legally is, as usual, clear as mud! It doesn't appear to be something that Mr Plod would look for, nor is it something that's checked on the MoT, might be something to check with your insurer. And of course, when we leave the EU ...

All Maxsport tyres are e-marked, apparently!

I've got a set of Uni-Royal RainSport3 in 185/55/14 that I stuck on a set of steels for wet track days. Worked pretty well on a very wet BlytonPark when I'd have been sitting it out (like nearly everyone else) without them. On track once the standing water had gone they were distinctly squirrely. Oh, and I do mean VERY wet...

I also used them to get to Stoneleigh last year and came back in pouring rain up the M6 without issues. Gripped OK on the road in the dry but never pushed when it was damp.

However, all that said, I'd still go with the new Toyo R888R. Used them on tour last year and they're really good in the dry, epic grip, consistent and wear well enough that I'll tour on the same set this year. Even in a biblical deluge or two (one was the worst conditions I've ever been in) never aqua-planed (where the old version would). Of course if you're not going to drive hard they might be overkill...

Just has a set of Toyo R888Rs fitted, not been out in the rain yet (Scotland next month though!) but so far they are very very good for grip & a little more supple over bumps than the old 888s.

One word of warning though, they are rubbing on at least three wheel arches on bump, so must be slightly larger diameter or maybe slightly wider than the old 888.

Very please with them for £300 / set of four inc fitting & balancing from Adams & page in High Wycombe

Actually mine rubbed at the rear on bump now you mention it. I'd been playing with the suspension setting so thought it was that but could be that they'er slightly wider. I trimmed the arch in the end but it was very close to the old ones anyway and should have been done long ago.

The new ones are better than the old in the wet but if you do get caught out just remember there is still a gulf between wet and dry performance.

That's a good price considering online they are 104-109 each online

Sounds interesting, two compounds track 12
120 wi, Road 180wi, 888 are 100wi for ref

I've done two track days in the dry on these tyres now and they feel really good.
I've got the 180 compound, they are very predictable and seem to have good grip too.
