The engine might fit into a Caterham but I'm unsure about the gearbox and wotnot. I suspect it would require a fair bit of modification to the chassis and you'd probably have to dry sump it as it's quite tall... Will ask next time I speak to the guy who put it in the Westy (they tried it in a friends Caterham to see if it would go).

It does fit in the widebody Westfield with a MT75 transmission tunnel with only slight modifications to the chassis. You would have to make up a prop shaft to go from the S2000 gearbox to a Sierra LSD, some engine mounts and generally be a bit handy in this sort of area. But it does fit and the results are really quite mental.

To get it to a similar spec you'd have to do it yourself. Order a Westfield SEiW/MT75 base kit then add what you need to it to get it to spec. Nowt stopping you using Caterham bits either, I do I have Caterham Tillet seats and Minator wheels basically because I prefer them (and the wheels are really cheap That's my Pikey Westie owner side showing through).

It would be a fairly difficult thing for you to do over there. However Rich, who built the Westie reckons he can build a new, road legal S2000 Wesite (2nd hand engine obviously) for around £20k. The car will be in the region of low 500's kgs (the current car is 500kgs but is purely a track car/test mule so it would gain a little weight getting lights and wotnot on it). On it's standard induction system and a non-catted exhaust it's producing 240bhp. I suppose catting it would dent that a little but not by a huge amount.

There ain't no way it's going into a Striker without major fettling!

Personally I still think the easiest and best option for you would be to speak to Raceline about their Duratec Caterham. It was by far the neatest installation of them all and it should be possible to drop a 220bhp engine into there and get the best of all worlds. You're still talking at least 440bhp/ton (depending on the final wieght) which is not down much on the R500 which isn't 500bhp/ton anymore (more like 470-480). It's lighter than the K-Series you know so in theory you might be talking more.

What do you guys think of these?

The S2000 engine OR the Hayabusa engine for $29K US. however, after seeing the pics for the car, I realize why Catherham (and Westfield for that matter) gets highly praised for their craftmenship with the sevens.

I finally went to Catherham USA's website and sells the Superlight R for $29k w/o engine and tranny (w/ my options it would be a little over 30k).

I finally realised that the main difference of the R500 compared to a regular superlight is the Carbon parts and trim, sump, bell housing and oil towers, the tires and the suspension.

I could get a S2000 engine and tranny for about $6-8K, so I guess I have the choice of saving $6-8k, or actually having a better quality and marginally better speed.
