I think the Gt40 is the best looking car ever and the SGT is a very good copy. A very nice high spec car is on car and classics at the mo'.
If you just want performance and not the classic looks an Ultima is a far cheaper option.
my own personal opinion is an Ultima is now looking very dated, it was groundbreaking in its day, however modern supercars and hypercars have moved the game on in looks and performance. i prefer a classic look, so it would be a GT40 or T70, even perhaps a Lister Bell Stratos at circa £50k built. superb chassis and quality, and you wont be losing any money. I did take a friend out round Blyton in my GD T70 and he was gutted he'd spent £90k or so on a fabulous GT40 replica build which was slower round track and not as nice handling, his exact words. the GT40 though still has stunning looks and presence, another timeless classic.

I have had an Ultima GTR and GT40's. I think the Ultima is still a very fast car and doesn't need to compete with supercars as it's in a very different price range and can be serviced at home. But I agree the Gt40 every time on looks alone. Unless the cars are tracked they are all very fast exciting road cars.I did take a friend out round Blyton in my GD T70 and he was gutted he'd spent £90k or so on a fabulous GT40 replica build which was slower round track and not as nice handling, his exact words. the GT40 though still has stunning looks and presence, another timeless classic.
From what ive heard a Southern gt40 with its revised suspension and lower centre of gravity etc will be seriously quick in the right hands around a track
What makes the gdt70 much quicker ? Assuming similar power output.
Perhaps not all the relevant but the whitsun trophy is always very evenly contested between t70s and gt40s

Not necessarily quicker in kit road car terms. T70 will be lighter in spyder form than GT40 I reckon but certainly better handling from what I saw on trackdays. What makes the gdt70 much quicker ? Assuming similar power output.

In historic racing unfortunately the Gt40 seem to be much slower than the mk3 T70s you often see out on track together but it's a bit unfair I think to compare as the T70 are always much more power than in the day and more reliable now. Less GT40 around and worth more probably results in less likely to be thrashed/crashed perhaps?

Was comparing gt40s to the t70 mk1 spyders that race in whitsun trophy. This yr a gt40 came out on top i think
Dont think the value has anything to do with it.. Have a look at kenny bracks gt40 drive a couple of years ago.. One of the greatest ever
I've watched a lot of can am era over last few yrs and usually it's a mk3 t70 on top but back in the day the Lola were not as reliable maybe. I love both gt40 and t70 so either would be nice :-)Dont think the value has anything to do with it.. Have a look at kenny bracks gt40 drive a couple of years ago.. One of the greatest ever
Agree that video is class :-)
Having done the V8 kit thing I'm tempted by a Stratos kit next time, built or to build perhaps. Craig at Lister bell has built Ultima and T70 so id have no concerns. Gt40 kit for sale nearby to me also, still tempting!
GT40 - like Cobra's have been done to death, & for my money, are way OTT in £'s - Nice to look at but far too common a sight on the roads to interest me - T70 looks OK, though not for me. Stratos is possible though only accepts smallish engines. I want a large N/A V8 or V12.
What we really need is a modern designed Kit car with a large engine - an up to date Ultima shall we say, the Ultima itself has been around for over 30 years - & 20 years with it's present body shape.
I've been looking for awhile fro a project - nothing at the mo makes me salivate

Coming in on the end of this conversation. I'm just coming to the end of building a T70 and have been pleased with the quality of the parts supplied. I had no choice in what kit to build as I had already named my daughter Lola! But if you would like to view the car I'm in NW Kent by junc 3 of the M25 if that's any use to you.
