Hi all,

I've always wanted a late diablo, they're now out of reach.

https://rover.ebay.com/rover/0/0/0?mpre=https%3A%2...

Popped up and, well, it looks the part.

Does anyone know much about the quality of the parallel designs kits,? From what I've read they seem to be pretty authentic externally and internally (heating controls seem to give game away), and clearly the BMW v12 isn't all that, but it's not a stupid engine to put in the car.

Im guessing it's 300hp on a 1.5 ton car, I'd feel happier at 400+, but for the road I'd have thought this car as fast enough, albeit not diablo speed. Are my guesses reasonable here, or is it lighter/heavier/higher power???

I could just go buy a gallardo, but save superleggera they do nothing for me. I honestly think walking up to this, even though its a replica, would give me more childlike giggles than a "real" lambo that I could afford. Id probably sell my Aston Martin vantage if I bought this too.

There are even real mkI diablos with horrific interiors and dashboards for around 100k, but cosmetically, this is in another league to me and 100k is too much for a toy at the moment.

Am I mad for considering this?

Who the hell would buy it from me when I came to sell it? Is the market OK for these, or will I end up stuck with it for a long time? Or will I just go everywhere in reverse laughing at scissor doors and 90's awesomeness???

It's been for sale for ever. Asking price is down about £3k over the past year. Draw your own conclusions.

You sold my cerbera then lol?

Was white. Sold to Totalheadturners changed to black with gold wheels (epic) then sold and changed to green. Changed hands again.

There's a thread on lamboreplica forum about it. The original owner was less than complimentary about how it drove and Naz from Parallel Designs disappeared allegedly knocking a couple of people.

Other than that.... smile

Look what he says about it on this thread:

It started as a pearl white car that got sold on eBay if I remember correctly for £18k
It then went to totalheadturners who then put it up for sale at £30k ish
I was Negotiating it down to £25k but then correspondants stopped
It was then re advertised painted black with gold wheels for £40k I think
Then got sold and sent down to regal in Kent
I was told it had to have about £10k spent on it to fix a lot of bad workmanship on it and was still in need of more work
It was also painted lime green
I think the problem with parallel designs was the chassis was never designed right , so it will never drive good no matter what you do
Which is a shame cause I love the Diablo
I was close to buying two parallel design cars
This one , and an orange vt with a tvr engine but it was overheating all the time ,
Dc super cars is the other maker but you don’t see many for sale from them

If you really do have an Aston Martin Vantage (oddly, it does not appear in your garage), you'd be mad to replace it with this piece of st.

That looks a decent enough project for the money.

Ex owners do tend to slate cars when they later resell for a lot more than they received!

Doofus,

Thank you. I take your point, esp given other posts/extended info.

Tricky360,

Top insight, a gent. I realised this was the white one resprayed (preferred in white actually) from head turners around a year or two back (I liked it then too!), but thought the black one was a different car. These parallel diablos are rarer than initially appeared, if it's the same car doing the rounds!!

Are there any diablo reps you recommend? You clearly know the market / options much better than me, there isn't too much info out there.

85Carerra,

I'll update my garage at some point!

Paul500,

Thanks for the balance. The vendor hasn't even got back to me, nor knew anything about the car. At a punt for 20k it may be a laugh, but given it's had 4 layers of paint, the seller doesn't know a dime about it, the previous owner is slating it, I don't think I could stomach near 40k, as I don't think I'd be able to get out of it, should I want to.

smash,

Hey mate! Yes, I passed your cerb onto a new home 2+ really happy (albeit painful) years, heads/manifolds/oil pump, you name it. Still. Cerb is my fave car to date, just love them. I went onto a 4.3 Tuscan, but the Cerb is just so much cooler. I'm actually tempted to get another one. Or maybe I should get a Cobra?

What have you been up to? I remember you had an old ferrari rep. & a GT40 before the cerb - have you got anything fun at the moment?

I'm really unsure what to get next. Whether to spend 20-80k, whether to buy modern or classic. The decision making state space is making it a bit hard to zone in on something biggrin

the gallardo superleggera at motorhub ( https://www.pistonheads.com/classifieds/used-cars/... ) looks nice, but these guys get AWFUL rep. So I should bin this thought too.

I can't help but thinking a classic is WAY cooler than anything modern and more fun on road. 355 could be an option, or
https://www.pistonheads.com/classifieds/used-cars/...
https://www.pistonheads.com/classifieds/used-cars/... as a rep.

It's a fun game, but I'm utterly lost.

http://www.asmotorsport.co.uk/

are the absolute coolest though.

What to do..... what to do???

Thanks for taking the time to post comments, all. smile

Best,

Stu

Why not try the Stoneleigh Kit Car show and see some of the types of cars and owners first hand.

The Diablos in the UK do change hands but a lot takes place via word of mouth, Dave Harrison is the guy to speak to. PM me if you’d like his contact details or search DC Supercars on the net. He usually has the details behind each car that’s for sale.

He’s still producing the Diablo replica today by the way.

I've just put mine up for sale in the classifieds... see '500bhp AK Cobra'. Totally reliable, totally cool and brutal!

Give me a bell if you're interested.

You have brought an old thread back to life.
Unfortunately your post makes no sense.
It must be 1/2 term.

Hehe, some things don't change though.

Still want a diablo, nearly bought one around a year ago, but the engine had issues and I wasn't brave enough.

Just sold the aston, got another tuscan and a 4.5 cerbera.

But still want a diablo...
