Being completely new to the idea of kit cars I am after some general advice about what to look for.I have listed below what parameters I want to work within any advice would be greatly appreciated.
1)Budget upto 9K
2)Use-Mostly track day, road use now and again.
3)dont mind a stiff ride.
4)Creature comforts not important.
5)Fancy something 2ltr ,Zetec perhaps?
6)By the way must be second hand,i aint brilliant with a spanner.
As i say any advice would be welcome I have a 97 4.2 Cerb to sell in the meantime, so if any body fancies a part ex let me know.

cheers
steve

Sounds like a Westfield might fit the bill. Bike-engined with aero-screen (you did say not bothered about comfort) might just fit in your budget, and go extremely well too.

I've never fancied a bike engined car myself, but I'm finding it increasingly difficult to argue with the economics or the power to weight ratio

Where to start? £9k should be plenty to get a decent track day weapon. There are plenty of 7 style cars out there, Caterham, Westfield, Tiger, Dax .... Etc, Etc.
I doubt £9k would stretch to a good Caterham (somebody will prove me wrong!)

Cobra replica's will also fall within your budget but not the best choice for track use at this budget. Have a look also at used Stylus', Furys' and the like. You may also want to look at BEC's (Bike engined cars) Lots of fun and becoming more available on the used market too.

Look at a few Kitcar mag's and browse the classifieds. You'll have plenty to pick from at sub £9k. Non will have the out & out grunt of your TVR but will be quick and be cheap as chips to run. Great through the twisty bits and great for a Sunday morning blast.

£9k will get you a nice Westie 2nd hand. The Zetec is a very reliable lump and not shabbly at all in 2ltr trim. Try and get one on throttle bodies and with a very good sump system if you plan to track it. If the one you buy has a boggo sump, spend £430 and get a Raceline sump (no I'm not kidding). It's an amazing thing and second only to dry sumping which will cost you in the region of £1000.

For track 13" wheels are favorite. They reduce unsprung wieght and thus improving handling. You also can get a greater range of interesting rubber for them.

Get a quick steering rack. Trust me, you need one.

A type9 box is preferable to an MT75 as it's easy to swap the internals for more suitable gearing from the likes of Quaife, Tran-X and BGH.

An LSD is also one of them must have thangs.

good luck.
