How much play in Westfield reverse box?

Hi,
how much play should there be in a westfield reverse box [megablade] when it's in forward? I thought these things would just 'lock' the input and output shafts together. I was greasing the joints on the propshafts last night and it seemed I could turn the front shaft maybe 1/4 turn back and forward before the rear shaft turned. Is this amount of play normal? It also seems to generate a lot of driveline shunt. Normal?
