totalkitcar LIVE! - Two Shows this Year

Brands Hatch and Oulton Park to play host to shows

Following the successful debut of the totalkitcar LIVE! event at Brands Hatch last year, MotorSport Vision is again linking up with totalkitcar magazine to run a second version of the event at another of its venues, Oulton Park in Cheshire.

Celebrating one of the fastest-growing industries in Britain, totalkitcar LIVE! will be held at Oulton Park on March 25th.  The Brands Hatch event will be held again this year on October 14th.

MotorSport Vision Chief Executive, Jonathan Palmer, said: “I am delighted to welcome the kitcar fraternity to Oulton Park for the first time, particularly under the enthusiastic and professional auspices of totalkitcar magazine.  The inaugural event was a huge success and I am glad that it contributed towards the continued growth of the kitcar industry.  I know that this event will produce a fascinating array of truly affordable machinery and I look forward to seeing the cars being enjoyed at Oulton Park.”

totalkitcar editor Steve Hole said: “After the huge success of last year’s event, I knew there would be enormous support for an event based in the north and, having been impressed by Jonathan Palmer’s knowledge of the kitcar industry and his willingness to champion it, Oulton Park was the perfect venue.  We will have no problem getting at least 45 manufacturers to the March event, including several who were at Brands Hatch and want to come again!”

The event at Oulton Park will follow the same format as last year’s totalkitcar LIVE! with manufacturers exhibiting their cars in the circuit’s 24 garages with the unique advantage that they can also demonstrate the cars for serious customers by giving passenger rides on the track.

Among the car builders based in the north-west that will be present are Warrington’s ShawSpeed, Stylus Sportscars based in Mid-Wales and Cyana Sportscars from Runcorn, Cheshire.

Tickets to totalkitcar LIVE! at Oulton Park on March 25 will cost £10 per adult or £8 in advance by calling 0870 950 9000 or visiting www.oultonpark.co.uk.  Visitors arriving in a kitcar will be able to take advantage of central VIP parking.  Advance tickets will be available shortly.  Manufacturers will be able to exhibit in a garage for £550+VAT or in the paddock for £275+VAT.  Anyone interested in exhibiting at the show should contact Steve or Nat on 01883 372085.

Do they have a truck following the cars around the circuit with a team of sweepers to pick up all of the bits that have fallen off?

eh? It's not a TVR show!

*edit*

Alternatively "eh? it's not a *insert manufacturer brand of PH sub-culture you wish to set fire to your car if you ever attend any meets in the future* show!" hee-hee!

No, but these are all kit cars. Based on how many bits can fall off a TVR on the average journey (Oh God - I can see the posts now from the TVR faithful) and they are from a proper motor manufacturer, apparently, I just have this lovely mental image of a grid full of kit cars trying to make it round a full lap.

OOOh cheeky....

I have a Dax Rush (super 7) with 4.6ltr V8 Rover Big Valve motor, and I've never had anything fall off of it (except a suction rear view mirror which couldn't handle the acceleration, and the inevitable tyre rubber that you lose with 490 BHP/tonne).

My brother had a TVR 350i "wedge" (which was porne to the odd bit coming adrift), but his latest Tiv Griff 500 doesn't drop anything other than a bit of coolant from time to time.

Maybe you got a Friday afternoon car ?

Have to agree that you do see some shocking looking / poorly put together Kits at nearly every show.... beggars belief and makes me think "is that guy really proud enough of that thing to show it ????" either they must be , or they just don't care and merely like to enjoy relatively cheap thrills. Each to their own I spose.

I'm only joshing. I aspire to some day owning a really good Stratos from Hawk, as I probably won't be able to afford a real one. I've never owned a TVR myself but know one PH staffer who seemed to spend a lot of money keeping his on the road (I'm not sure it wasn't some sort of extended care home payment plan as it seemed to live at the dealer) and I also have two car fan mates who went down the TVR road, only to say 'never again'. To lay all cards on the table, I just love cars really. All shapes, all sizes. Well, with a few exceptions.

We supported the show at Brands last year with the south east region cobras and displayed some 80 odd cars and will be back this year as well.
For those stuck in the 70's mindset of kitcars I suggest you pop along to one of the events and take a good look, the industry has come on in leaps and bounds in recent years, not least because of SVA. But more so due to customers building by and large superb cars. Yes there will always be the odd shed, but dont taint the rest of us with the same brush.
When putting between 250 and 500 BHP through to the rear wheels in a car that weighs the same as a mini, most of us want it to stay together not fall apart.

I think that one can get absolute dogs wether its a kit car or a mainstream manufacturers car that has been `tarted' up. Many kit cars (in particular cobra replicas) which I have seen have been built to a standard far higher than could be achieved in a mass produced car (Made by mechanical or human robots) I have seen tarted up saxo`s/novas/fiestas/escorts/peugeots etc, and think `why the hell did they bother? at the end of the day its still just a saxo/nova/fiesta/escort/peugeot etc with bits stuck on it to make it look different. It may be quick etc, but its still a mainsteam car and the problem with mainstream cars is that there are literally thousands of them, tarted up or not.

Have GTM confirmed which cars they are taking? I really want to see the Ballista and the Libra, but not a spyder as I don't like it as much

I'd love to have a passenger ride in a Libra

At the moment the factory have confirmed they are bringing the Libra and Spyder demo cars.

I'll let you know if the Ballista is going to make an appearance.

If you are serious about a passenger ride in a Libra come and see us on the day !

I did the Demo rides at the 2005 Totalkitcar live day for GTM in my VVC Libra. I did over 80 laps, ONLY 5 LAPS WITH "PUNTERS" in!!!! there were not many people there in the big scheme of things and some companies were charging upto £20 for a ride (we we FREE so they probobly thought Libras were crap!) Ended up taking other GTM owners round. Also the driving standards were pretty poor with about 10 red flags for spins, we were told to drive well within our limits (the 2 Libras didnt go off). There was talk of next year only letting race licence holders or track day veterans do the driving) Ther was more than one member of the public in the gravel trap, which is NOT good publicity for any of us. I hope this years events are better publicised and more of you turn up, I'd have loved to take more people round. And kit cars do not fall apart!

The TEAM GTM demo drivers attending Oulton park are experienced trackday drivers but as Lee stated in the previous post the driving standards of some of the other manufacturers was rather poor at Brands Hatch.

The cars belong to the owners and are well prepared for a day on the track but hopefully as the full circuit at Oulton is being used there may be less congestion on the circuit and more opportunity to show the cars off at there best.

I've just booked my tickets. Quick question, if I want to go out on the track in some of the cars, should I take my (bike) helmet?

Never been to a car show before, I'm really excited...
