Most people seem to prefer the MK3 (the black one) looks wise as it is a bit wider, bigger and meaner looking. But the MK2 is the better drive and is the one I prefer, I always wished it was just a bit wider and lower at the back, the standard rear-track is very narrow, a lot narrower than the mini it is based on.

You said you like the MK2 earlier in the thread, so what do you think about the MK3?

Can't someone just do a decent body for the GWizz to bring things up to date? After all this is about the future not past, and there is no shortage of track day cars. The Gwizz is switching to Lithiam batteries soon with AC motors, so the general technologies catching up. Its just so pig ugly like a lot of kit cars. Now just look at the Tesla (Lotus Elise underpinnings) , although its 10 times the cost of the Gwizz. There got to be some mid ground here, and we have to move forward. Id buy electric for my 30 miles to work and back.

I totally agree with you, and really believe that a few kitcar manufacturers should contemplate this market in the future

Sometimes you need money and a vision, and some do and others don't.....

I think a few are already working behind the scenes on something, and just look at Westfields new design competition, "Design an Electric sportscar theme"..

You could get any kitcar chassis and convert it to electric, and both have the style you want with electric power.....

I have my design ready for that, a porsche retro speedster design.......smile

Thats spot on, keep it small "sexy" and with an open top, but most of all light. Back in the 1970's Some kit cars ( Dennis Adams designs Marcos and Probe.) used a glassfibre Monocoque with big plywood box sections (Like boat construction). Very strong and light, ideal for this.

It's a late Mk2 - I've got an eatly Mk2 (smaller flares over front wheels) sitting in the garage waiting for a complete rebuild. Latest idea is to use four Lynch (electric) motors, one for each wheel. It's sat in the garage for ten years so don't hold your breath.

Nice idea......smile, something different and new and would really be a modern alternative vehicle.

You should build it ....!!!

Unfortunately Lithium batteries have one rather major shortcoming... lifespan.

Keep them WELL within their specified capability and I'd describe them as "OK" - start putting them under any strain and their lifespan is akin to an adult mayfly! Being that they aren't exactly cheap this comes as a bit of a stumbling block for the would-be enthusiasts conversion.

That's before you consider that if the packs become unbalanced or incorrectly charged they become highly explosive and contain substances that can kill you quicker than you can say "oooOOh what's that stuff oozing out the pack".

I had heard the biggest drawback with Lithium was the explosive aspect, also once on fire very hard to extinguish. I am sure the battery industry will sort this but some of the new projects I have seen are still using Lead Acid.

That is certainly true - the chemicals inside a lithium pack produce everything they need to keep burning, (which is why they are so explosive in the first place so can go into thermal runaway.

Still not very handy that you can effectively destroy them so easily either. I use them exclusively in my RC aircraft because of their amazing power to weight ratio, but I've killed a pack in a single flight before by getting a little ambitious with the current draw!

Im sure that decent control electronics will take care of any charge / discharge rate problems. I doubt Tesla would take the risk to sell a car that catches on fire if you put your foot down! I bet if VW or the like put their mind to it, the teething problems would be sorted in a year. Well done for the small guys so far......

No that is way to much...

But

I went to have a look at a possible replacement for my Exige today.

It is not yet in production but hopefully will be soon.

I don't think that the pictures do it justice. It looked stunning in the flesh. from a car that looked smaller than my Exige, it had more room inside

It will have different engine options and the prototype will have a 300bhp Duratec engine. The boot opening will be the rear window like on a TVR 350.

it is a Zolfe Orange (As it is called at the moment biggrin )

Even though the car is only a prototype I was very impressed at the build quality. It will also have headlight covers on the production car.

Personally I think it would look stunning in Black or Silver.

Here are some pics.
