I'm considering buying a G20, but want to use it on a regular basis rather than just sunny days and hence want a full windscreen rather than deflector. Unfortunately I don't like (in fact hate with a passion ) Ginetta's offering for the G20.

I'm new to building cars and whilst I'm confident I wouldn't have any trouble putting together most of the kits out there I wonder if anyone could give me an idea of what is likely to be involved in customising a G20 to add a different full windscreen.

Hi Rob,

If you're looking at regular use then surely you'd be better off going for the G27, which was not only designed with a full windscreen but also offers such practicalities as doors.

Think that trying to fit different screen and make better looking job than Ginetta would be difficult.

You might however want to look at the Ginetta G4 roadster screen as the G20 is derived from the G4 so it might fit without too much hassle. Or then again it might not.

By the way, the G4 isn't made by Ginetta but by Dare.

I did think of a 27, but when I saw the 20 for the first time it was love at first sight, not a feeling I ever had with the 27.

Hadn't thought of dare though, might be worth a shout

I've got to agree with you the G20 screen is a mess - I've told Martin this quite a few times.. What about waiting for the new '33? I'm still hankering after one of those, or the '34.. There are a couple for sale on the owners club site, plus one '34..

I could put you in touch with a new London Ginetta dealer, who I'm sure could work with you to create a better screen for the 20.

I looked at the Ginetta (briefly) as a usable car but at the time couldn't afford it.

I'm now thinking of building something. Will the G33 and G34 be available as kits or only as turn-key cars?

Ginettas made by Ginetta are available as kits. It's just the G4 and G12 made by Dare that are only sold as turnkey cars.

Incidentally, spoke to Martin Phaff of Ginetta at Donington regarding the new V8 car. They're still working on it, but satisfying customers orders for existing models has to come first so it's anyone's guess when it'll be finished.

Got any pics of the G20 screen? I've only seen it with the little token screen. Is it the same as the G27 screen? If not wouldn't it be possible to fit that one as the fronts are pretty much the same as far as I can see?

Yes I'm clueless but I do like the looks of the G20!! I'd say Ginetta should graft the back end of the G20 on to the G27 and figure how to get a decent looking boot lid on it. It's a much nicer rear end than the kicked in the arse look the G27 currently sports

Oh and of course design a decent ragtop that doesn't look like a wigwam!!

G20 screen is more like the G33 screen... The rake of it is all wrong and it breaks the natural line of the car.. imo

I'll try and get a piccie from Martin..

Last time I spoke to Martin he'd just finished the full size screen for a customer who had requested it. As far as I know it's never seen light of day in any advert (probably because the car looks so much better with the deflector). I'll dig in my photo archive to see if I have a shot of the offending article.

Ginettag27 - I'd love to get in touch with someone who I could work with, the only problem is the management, who is currently vetoing any major purchases (says the baby's more important!)

I'm still trying though, maybe next summer I'll be on

rob Stick with it "faint heart never won fair lady" The managent actually bought the project I am doing at the moment. Granted it was only £200 but she's getting in to the kit car scene and I've got 2 ankle biters 1 year old and 3 years old girls. "Keep the faith"

Ok then, my major scoop and photo opertunity has been foiled by a delayed launch...now put back 2 weeks, but it seems that a few people already know, so here goes.
Ginetta are to launch a G20 GT coupe, and it really is pretty judging by the photos I have seen so far. Imagine the offspring from a G20, Exige, and e type coupe three in a bed romp...It's very ,very pretty, but packed with purpose. It will be a road legal racer and be part of a ginetta GT race supporting the major GT races (macca F1's etc). I'll let you know as soon as I can get close enough to get some pics of it, and keep reading kitcar for the full review asap.

Finally, if anyone asks, you ain't heard it from me right

Martin Phaff mentioned this at the Donington show. Looks like I'll be making a trip to Sheffield soon...
