Hmmm, does sound very interesting! I guess this means it's actually got doors and - gasp - maybe even windows!!!

Need to see it's bum!

Think Kylie and you'll get the idea very nice, and you certainly wouldn't kick it out of the garage. It reminded me a bit of an e type coupe around the rump, but as I said, with a more aggressive lotus exige shape if that makes sense
As for doors they are there, but the low roof and small doors will make it a contortionists dream. Don't see why they can't sack the roof bit and just keep the windscreen though?

GT car has been well known for quite some time (more publicly announced in Autosport 2 weeks ago - see front of National section). I think the car was hoped to have been ready for Spa for the 1 hour British Sportscar race there (4/5 weeks ago), but wasn't to be.. There was a development Ginetta there (G20 chassis, G27 body, aero kit, 2 litre zetec) which came fourth, but isn't quite a GT car and isn't restricted by the G20 championship regulations as it doesn't race in that championship.

I also think the GT project car is due to take the track at the Renault Festival at Donington in three weeks time, but now I'm not sure if it will be ready for that either.. The Ginetta's have a double header race on that weekend.

Why not come along to Dono this weekend? Although I don't think the GT car is going to be there Although Martin Phaff (owner of Ginetta Cars) will be there, you can ask him personally! Two races on Sunday.

Hi Rob,

Had a word about this with Martin Phaff a week or so ago. Current plans are to make the coupe purely for track use, with just two or three road going versions to satisfy the regs, all of which will go to 'Ginetta insiders'.

Martin readily admits that the quality of the coupe moulds and panels you'll get out if them just isn't up to the standard you'd want for a road car. Getting them fit for the two or three road cars they will build is going to require too much work to make it viable commercially.

HOWEVER. Martin also said that if they sell enough racers to make a return on the investment and if there's enough interest then they may well manufacture a better set of moulds and make a road version later on.

D'oh, damn spoilsport MP!!

Will there be any benefit using the coupe over the roadster on the track? Is it still going to compete in the same series as the roadster?

I'll try and get down to donny on Sunday. It'd be good to get up close to some G20s anyway.

Cheers,
Rob

If you are at Donny, then feel sorry for No 42 the yellow G27 floundering around at the back getting lapped. I'd like to apologise to the other drivers in advance, but I'm just there to have fun, learn the car, track, enjoy my first race, and find out if I'd reccomend it to others.

SORRY.

Matt

No problem, we've all been there and done our first race. Dono is a superb track and deceptively quick. Just enjoy yourself. Who's old car was it btw? If you need some help with setup then the team that run me can probably help, but would have to ask first. They've got 2yrs of experience of G20s and about 5 of G27s. I'm in a green G20, number 77. Have you got an Autosport guide or ever been around Dono before?

Hi Ginettatag27, thanks for the support. My car (yellow no42) was bought from Colin Fearns (purple car, purple helmet?), but it wasn't his...he was selling it on behalf of someone else. I think the last person to race in it was Rick Hill, but it's high point was 2nd in 2000 when I think Hollybon owned it. I bought it as a trackday car, but Martin Phaff told me I ought to bring it out of retirement. Problem was that he was only giving me 25 days to get my race licence and get the car sort of ready.
I have managed to give the car a 10 lap shakedown at a twisty airfield, but thats all, other than that I will not have ever driven the car before qualifying!! I have never driven Donnington!!, and I have never been in any sort of race!! thank godness I like a challenge, but I don't seriously expect a decent result....I'd like to finish though, so softly softly I think.
I'll be reporting on the whole affair for kitcar mag in an attempt to show people if you really can just buy an eligible car and go racing, without the benfit of a race team or huge budget; who am I trying to kid, I have no budget, and my race team involves my brother in law and Dad who will help me kick the tyres and thats about it.

Hope to see you there.

Matt.

Matt, good luck at donny, went round it as a passenger in a seven type. Great fun although I think yours will be a little more serious.

If your write up is anything like who dares spins I think we'll have to start a new race category next year called the "PistonHeaders All comers"
