Don't get me wrong, I don't avoid buying Kit Car as a general rule, I have a browse through both mags before buying, it's just that there wasn't much in your mag that interested me at that time.

In my opinion, it's the adverts that are the main problem regarding quality or apparent quality of the publication.
I've got nothing against adverts, how else would we find out what products and services are available?
It's more the distribution of them.
I feel that when I look through Kit Car I'm trying to find the articles in among the adverts when it should be the other way around.

Chrisj. I’m not criticising you or anybody else for having preferences. What I am doing, I hope, is to point out that there are other basis for one’s purchase decisions, namely the trustworthiness of the publication. I'm also pointing out that things do change. Just look at Skoda.

I'm willing to change Kit Car along whatever lines its readers demand. That's why I'm giving out free copies.

Would be nice to have a few more takers!

e-mail me to be added kitcarperson@ntlworld.com

Address retrospectively altered, on advice from traction, to save me from spiders and bots not to mention porn and big pricks.

Further to my earlier posts:

Which Kit said:
Thank you for bringing this to our attention, however we are following a policy of not commenting on the allegations made by Mr Tanner and prefer to spend our time producing a professional magazine for our readers.

Oh well, I'll have to buy next month's copy now

Translation: 'Everything he says is true so we're not going to get drawn into an argument we know we haven't got a cat in hell's chance of winning.'

“I have the right to remain silent” and “Anything you say may be used in evidence” springs to my mind.

So why’s he shy? grahambell got the measure of it, I reckon.

Jolly good effort of PeetBee though. Thanks for all your efforts.

Because by staying silent people will buy his magazine to see what all the fuss is about!!!!!!

I’m full of mixed emotions at Which Kit?’s refusal to comment. On the one hand I’ve sort of said ‘I told you so’ in my posting above. On the other hand I’m sad that there won’t be feedback from my rival which I’m quite certain you’d all agree is not ideal for informed debate.

I know I said that I’d lay off posting unless there was a matter of fact to state. Well I think there is. In the light of Mr Filby’s decision to remain silent, I thought it worth while quoting a couple of extracts from my initial posting:-

I said:
I’m saddened at the low esteem in which my publication’s held by so many PistonHeads....I thought Kit Car is improving.

I’d like to offer the first 100 PistonHeads to e-mail me a free copy of the next (October) issue.

I think my product is better than the reputation it seems to have gained.

If I were to pay consultants to tell me how to improve Kit Car. I'd be charged mega bucks to be told what they thought I WANT to hear. I reckon a 100 magazines will be a small price to pay for what I NEED to hear.

I'm bracing myself.

The offer, the reason I made it and the value of your contribution is not in the least changed by my competitor’s decision. Personally I don’t give a fig for what you think of his product (so there’s no need to buy it for comparison). My purpose here is to raise awareness of my product, in particular to the fact that I’m trying my best to improve it, and to obtain your advice as to how you’d like me to improve it further.

Basically, I’m seeking your help and assistance. Not just for me, but because a healthy Kit Car magazine has to be good for everybody with an interest in kit cars.

If you want to contribute, here’s my e-mail address kitcarman at ntlworld dot com. Offer was to close on Friday 5th September, but since I’m away for most of the weekend (watching the racing at Donnington) I won’t be emptying my e-mailbox till Monday. If you do wish to take part, don’t forget your address because I can’t send the magazine w/o it. I’ve decided to lift numerical restrictions too – the more the merrier.

Have a fab w/e!

Kitcarman, you really should try to get some sleep!

Your early morning postings are always lengthy and deep, and I'm worried about you!

Ta.

BTW I'd edit that email addy to encrypt it somewhat otherwise the spam bots will find it. That said reading all the spam you get might help you sleep!

Traction. I’ve two observations:-
traction said:

First is that your contributions have been short and shallow....not to mention rude, sarcastic and unhelpful.

I'm glad I didn't sign up for your freebie offer………

Second is that you’ve declined my offer....so why don’t you grow up and stop pissing on my fireworks and those of those who are taking matters seriously.

Come on Den - never heard of irony?

And that bit about taking steps to shield your e-mail address from spam bots is very helpful advice to save you having to wade through 500 e-mails everyday trying to sell you porn or a bigger penis.

Save the spiteful remarks for Filby eh?

But the purpose of the forum is not to provide you with free advertising.

I value your knowledge of the industry, but repeatedly promoting your magazine and slagging Mr Filby will ultimately alienate many Pistonheaders.

I use Pistonheads as a release from the stresses of work.

I'm going to get a beer, put my feet up and chill out.

Maybe you should too?

Cheers

Pat.

Grahambell. Yes, I have heard of irony. I’ve been a silly boy – I know that.

However I have made it clear that I’m not going to post aspects of my commercial argument into non-related threads anymore. I also made clear that this is a whole new world to me. Furthermore IMHO the post to which traction referred was considered and not deserving of his reaction. Especially as he made clear that he has no interest in making an informed contribution anyway.
It may be that I overstated the unhelpfulness of his post in that, according to you, it contains useful anti-spam advice:-
traction said:

When put like this it makes no sense to a novice such as me and therefore appeared sarcastic and unhelpful.

PatHeald. Firstly, when I opened this thread I sought and obtained PetrolTed’s permission to “raise awareness” in the light of past perceptions. My first posting makes clear what my thoughts and objectives were and remain and I’ve never gone beyond my remit in that I’m only trying to give magazines away. I’ve had a slap for going too far in relation to bashing Mr Filby, learnt my lesson , and have not done so since (and certainly not in the posting that has brought this response).

Having said all the above, my response to traction should be regarded as defensive and NOT spiteful. If he, grahambell or anyone else has been offended, then I sincerely apologise. My posting was merely intended to convey the point that Mr Filby’s lack of participation didn’t change anything. The offer of a free magazine is still open.

I’m now following PatHeald’s advice – I’m having a relaxing beer. Then I’m following tractions advice - having a good kip. I’m looking forward to watching the racing this w/e.

So thats were I got my bigger penis from!!!! I've sudenly been hit by this spam and it's pissing me off.

On a more serious note (or larger issue) I've seen people who got too heavy with there postings get driven off of here....
Why.... because some are on here for light relief and don't want to get heavy.

It's also dificult to read if things are tounge in cheek or hand on heart.....

Don't take things too personnely and remember... people also post when pissed, or angry, or sad or etc...

You seem to have overlooked the benefits to be gained from all those spam messages. For instance, I have been accepting all offers made to me by email for the last 6 months, and my penis is now 21 metres long.

Thanks traction, I’ve had a few e-mails giving a laymans guide as to its meaning. This world is truly frightening - wot with spiders, bots, worms and viruses crawling around. Thanks for the advice and sorry for jumping to the wrong conclusion. I’m getting busy amending previous posts so as to “encrypt my e-mail addy

Sorry also for being over sensitive. You’re right to tell me to go to bed and stop typing into the small hours .

To be honest I wouldn't bother putting an email address in your posts.... If anyone wants to email you, they can click on your name, and use the "Click Here to Send Me An Email" link.

Safe from the bots and stuff....

Now why didn’t somebody say that in the first place!!!???

Seriously though, I am a novice and I’m only trying to correct what I think are wrong perceptions. I’m off to watch the racing for now but shall be back on Monday to extract all the addresses from your many e-mails. It’s not too late till then.

Hi Den, do you have an update for us on when shiny copies of KitCar will be plopping onto our doormats?

I want to read that article about Duttons
