I'm looking for ideas, not silly cost wise ones.

But what do you guys reckon would be a good kit to use a 4.0 litre straight 6 Jaguar engine in?

I've got rather a hankering to put one of these engines in something. Not for any real sensible reason, I just happen to like the engine and would love to make use of one in a lighter car than a XJ6.

Would any of the smallish Caterham-likes take a straight 6 or if not, maybe something a kit a bit bigger? Thinking 2 seater, open top and under 1000kg.

I know it's not the greatest engine in the world, but its a tad different, smooth, sounds fab and fairly tunable. 240bhp stock and plenty of grunt, might look at fitting a Eaton M90/112 blower to it also.

Thanks for your suggestions.

I really think that engine in a 7esque would be a mistake.

However, this car here is meant for a straight six, and is very good looking.
The link shows a BMW engine, but you could fit a Jag lump in its' place.

Robin Hood once put a Jag V12 into one of their 'Sevens', but I agree with Paul that it would be a big mistake... even the AJ6 engine is way too heavy for a Seven.

Depending on your budget, you might also want to consider the Marlin Sportster (again designed for BMW power), or one of the several Jaguar replicas that are designed for XK power (eg. the Suffolk Sportscars SS100 replica or a Realm or Proteus C, D or XKSS replica). It's probably fair to say that with any of the Jacg replicas, you're likely to take a bit of a hit when you come to sell the car, as most people will be looking for more 'authentic' XK power under the bonnet.

Are there any Austin Healey replica's? I remember seeing some a few years back at the kit car show. They looked a little modernised but retained the classic lines.

Yep, Sebring as mentioned by Ozzie Dave. Under new ownership too.

You could maybe try a GKD Evo?

Quite a few cars (as mentioned) using BMW straight 6 engines, so you could use the Jag instead, but why would you want to?

I think that after 9 years, the OP will have either found something to put his AJ6 into, or else it will have seized solid. wink
