Quick question about putting a kitcar back on the road after ten years in a shed - does it need to go thru a modern SVA test ?
It's a factory built Clan from 1973.
Thanks.

If you’ve got the registration number – no it doesn’t need SVA testing!

Should clarify that this should read 'As long as you have the registration document' rather than number.

Also it should be pointed out that the registration document should reflect the make, model and type of kit and not have any reference to the donor vehicle. If it does then the MOT testing station can refuse to test the car. In this instance then yes I believe the car would then have to be SVA tested to reflect the true make and model on the registration document.

I believe this to be correct. Correct me if I'm off the mark.

unless the kit uses the chassis of the donor vehicle then no SVA. I should know Ive just had it confirmed by the DVLA

Good point.

Do you know what the position is then if your vehicle has used the donors chassis and the reg doc still shows the donor vehicle - is that allowed?

Think about it. That's exactly where spartan andy is. He's got a Spartan, but the log book says it's a Herald.
It (and this hypothetical car) need an MOT and a simple inspection (to confirm it has actually got a Triumph chassis) but it DOES NOT NEED to be SVA tested.
The product of the inspection is the 'correction' of the V5. Spartan Andy will walk out with a Spartan log book having gone in with a Triumph one.

Honest guv.

Den.
