Nice car Nem, very smart.

Did you build it yourself, and if so, how much did it end up costing you?

Yes I did build it myself, it took me 19 months and I spent around 20k on it. Just added an in-car PC for my MP3's, GPS, Heater control, Radio and DVD etc. Have been very pleased with it, still very rare though, gets lonely at the shows.

Craig, what's the answers to the other questions? I've always liked the RS200 but have to admit I'd be more tempted with a Metro 6R4 replica, does anyone do them?

Built and had for a while a Pastiche Henley -didn't they buy out NG some years ago, before Pastiche went into liquidation?

as trouble with both the engine (Sierra) and suspension so never again.

Had a Jag based Kougar till recently and loved it so yes to that.

Would I buy another kit - not sure!

Currently a Caterham R400 nearing completion.
Previously a Caterham 1.6K supersport
And before that a Westfield SEi.

Here's the nearly complete R400.

Peetbee,
I don't think anyone has ever done a 6R4. The comprimises would be too great without using real 6R4 bits I reckon. The whole 4WD setup is awkward, the rear diff is bolted to the 'sump'. I doubt whether any other gear could fit to be honest (now there's a challenge). If you like 6R4s, my company owns one and some photos taken during it's reshell have been cobbled together and thrown at the Web by 'yours truly' at: www.geocities.com/ferg_ranson/metrorebuild
I can only apologise for the slow loading, I couldn't be bothered to compress them, I'm not a professional

By the way, I have a mate who bought an S4 for £1500 with a 2.something Pinto in it. It went like stink, but true to form he's taken it completely apart and it's still coming together slowly.

Thanks Ferg, now I've got a new keyboard (old one full of drool!) I would dread to think of the cost involved in that, I used to get motorsport news and saw the prices they went for.

Did the new shell start life as a standard metro with a 'few' modifications?

I suppose you could do something along the lines of the twin engined minis for a bit of fun and build it all yourself, but that's way beyond my skills, I haven't even put my Dutton back together

Dino, I assume you like Caterhams then!

It was an original, spare shell from the ARG clearance auction. Though it would be possible to build one from a Metro (obviously) there are numerous special panels etc which would make it difficult.

I've seen loads of replica's of the 6R4...... I'm sure you could buy one if you keep an eye on the lax power classifieds

I must say that I looked into the RS200 replica that used all the cossie bits (already have a modded cossie to sacrifice).... but my wife hates the look so I 'm not allowed!

Yes I do like my Caterhams a bit!

I wouldn't mind a genuine 6R4 though! Or a genuine RS200.

Although most people would like a 6R4, for going down the shops and frightening old ladies, it's worth bearing in mind that due to the rather high cost of engine rebuilds there are significant maintenance costs to avoid bankrupcy-inducing failures. The belts are changed at 400 competition miles and the engine is stripped at 1500.
Fortunately the bodywork is either robust or expendable. Kevin demonstrated the latter at Castle Coombe Rally Super Car Day this year when he wiped, wing and aerodynamics off the front and splintered the front panel when taking a chicane 'a bit too tight'.
Incidentally, the reason no decent replicas have been made is the sheer width of the thing. It's wider than one of our Transits! That'd take some fairly mighty wheel spacers!

Hmmm, Rover 600 V6 in the back of a Metro shell should widen it enough Nah it'd just end up in a hedge backwards.

none of that sort of language here please!
Was that the Sportspowerdrive one that you looked into Andy? I saw them at Donington and I think their demonstrator used a 2.8 Xr4x4 which should be cheaper than a Cossie (although your idea sounds like far more fun)
I'd never convince my other half that an RS200 would be better than a Cobra, still that's not such a bad position to be in

Hi Pete, long time no see! Haven't you finished that S£ yet!? I've sold the black S3 now to concentrate on the business, but the lack of club motor sport is beginning to take effect, so I recently purchased a Serria Cosworth

Hi Simon, sorry missed your reply there. No I haven't finished yet, but still plenty of time left in this millenium!
Hmm, sold a Dutton & replaced it with a Cossie, business doing well then?
