I currently own a 1.8 VVC Libra and am tempted by a Fisher Fury as I would like something a bit more track orientated.. with my age I'm not too bothered about practicality, but can you get hard/rag tops for them? For those who own/have owned/driven one, would you reccomend bike engined or car engined and if anyone has driven a Libra and a Fury, how do they compare?
Also if anyone has any pros and cons they can think of... reasons for buying and reasons for not buying etc that would be helpful!
My mind is by no means made up but some info would be greatly appreciated!

I built a Fireblade Fury Spyder in 2002, then bought a VVC Libra in 2006! Now have an R1 Phoenix, very similar to the Fury. Not even going to get involved with the bike engine/ car engine debate except that I love BEC and you need a ride in both. Only advice I'd give re: soft top / hardtop is I personally would not bother, as they never seal 100% and are a bit of a faff getting on and off. The best soft top solution I have seen yet is on Jim Gibletts R1 Fury, it has a full screen but no doors. (full screen spyder is is called) he has a soft top made which stretches between the screen top and the roll hoop, with a proper rear screen section in. To get in and out with the roof in place you simply zip a semi-circle roof section out the zip it back up when you are in. Works superbly, had no side windows but they could be incorporated if you wished. It looks far better than any soft top I have seen and is completely removable if you wish, just being on lift-dots. Regarding the handling between the two , roughly what a Caterham is to an Elise. There is not a lot road legal that will out-handle a well set up Fury, especially Bike engined. I did probobly 10 track events in each, and toured France in both, so have quite a few miles in both.

That sounds a bit like the 'half hoods' you get for Sevens. I've got one for mine and although it doesn't keep all the rain off it keeps you 90% as dry as a full hood (a leaky Caterham one anyway!) for a tiny fraction of the time and effort to put it up.You do see plenty of Furys advertised with weather gear though, so they're obviously out there. I think given the other limitations of a track orientated car (no security, no real boot space, questionable comfort over long distances etc) the roof is probably quite low on the list of issues.
"big Dean" and "big Dave" are two of the biggest guys I know full stop, and they both drive a Fury! Dean must be 6'3 and 17 stone. And he runs composite seats. As a last resort bench seats will do, my Phoenix came with those, masses of room. The Phoenix & Striker are narrower, you will need to try one but I am sure with a bench seat you would be fine. Drivers side cockpit width is the issue there.

I think that trying one is the key. I'm 6'0" and pushing 16 stone on a bad week and I fit in the Phoenix fine, width wise (on the drivers side - not on the passenger side!), but if I'm honest I woulfdn't be comfortable on legroom/pedal positions if I was any taller. The other thing that may or may not be an issue for you is that girfriends often don't fit the passenger side, as the transmission tunnel is offset to give to give more space on the driver's side (hence passenger narrower) and women's hips being wider means that they just don't fit... explaining that it's 'cos they have a fat arse often doesn't improve the situation, either.
I will agree with the Phoenix being tight on the passenger side. I had a sit in Furyblade_Lees car at Laon last year and it was such a tight fit I couldn't get my hand down to reach the 5th harness.
The Fury fits like a glove, with the seat bolted to the floor my head is below the windscreen. If I took the seat out there would be plenty of room width wise. Im 6'2" and about 18.5st. TBH you need to try one as some people are longer in the leg, and some in the back.
Big Dean has moved his pedal box further back and this gives a nicer driving position. (my pedals are top hung not floor mounted so this mod will have to wait).

Are you big Dave then? Lol. I probably wouldn't have that problem weighing in at a good 5 stone less! But the leg length could be as issue... thanks for the advice! The Fury fits like a glove, with the seat bolted to the floor my head is below the windscreen. To which, I'm assuming, furyblade lee is eternally grateful The Fury fits like a glove, with the seat bolted to the floor my head is below the windscreen. My mate Tom is 6'5" and managed to fit fine in his Fury but I would strongly suggest to get a taller roll bar than standard if you are over 5'6".

Are you big then Dave? Oh he is. Casually mentioned he is like the 5th strongest person in the UK or something???? I was quite relieved he could not reach the 5th harness slot, as he could have quite ripped it through the floor!!! How is the 219bhp Zetec coming on Dave??
Jimmy, can you post a picture up of your roof for Ryan?
