After a rebuild the front pipe of exhaust now sits nicely on top of the gearbox mounting. This causes major vibrations through out the drive chain, I 've tried different front pipes and lowering the bushes on the gearbox to drop it away from the exhaust but then then the alignment of the prop is out !!!

Running out of ideas! Has any body come across this?

Yep, been there and, after months of frustration, finally got the problem sorted after a lot of head scratching with Adrian Venn.

He replaced the standard gearbox transverse mounting plate with a flat steel plate which gives more clearance. The exhaust is now held in position with an additional bobbin isolator located on top of the mounting plate in compression. The whole exhaust system is now far more secure than before - when I got the car there was nothing holding it in place between the exhaust manifold bolts and the tail mount, which also had a habit of breaking...

I've had that setup for about 3 years now (and about 40k miles) and had no problems. If you'd like some photos I'll try and get some sorted out.

Fantastic, thanks kris,
I wish I was on this forum during my rebuild.

I've got to contact Adrain about a speedo cable, so the call will be made! Lets hope happy vibration free driving

Funnily enough I had the tail mount break at the end of the last week, finally fixed it with a bit of cut down angle bracket bolted on to an exhaust clamp - crude - but it holds it in place and very solidly

Pictures would be great if you can get them
