My alternator has died and I am looking for a replacement. Unfortunately, the details I have seem insufficient for ordering one.

It is a Lucas and the details I have are:
23729B
17ACR
157812V

Apparently, 17ACR is not a model number but more of a generic number.

Does anyone know what alternator I need to order?

Thanks!

The alternator on my 3000S is exactly the same as the one on my Reliant Scimitar GTE SE5A and is probably the same as a Capri 3000 or Granada 3000 so if they haven't got one listed for the TVR see if it's listed under any of the other cars. I had no problem getting a recon. one for my Scimitar as it was listed in their book.

I just take my old one into the spares shop and they give me a reconditioned one in exchange. Once they gave me a Bosch unit that fitted ok, so anything for the Capri/Granada/Transit should fit.

Rimmer Bros list the 17ACR (36 Amp) for a TR6, as well as the various component parts should you feel like overhauling your own unit- maybe just a new set of brushes ?

Thanks for all the replies.
I decided to order an alternator from Halfords (VA101, 35 amp). The costs are around £30 (part exchange the old one).
This worked out cheaper than the Rimmer Bros (£46.41).
