Hi all.. a buddy Rodger up in Scotland has just found this car undergoing a long long restoration, nearby to him.

He tells me "its a 1950's tvr lemans grantura, 1600 cc engine reduced from 3.5 litres to comply with le mans rules at the time. The man's dad worked and supplied tvr with parts and as part of payment they gave him the car, which his son is or has been trying to restore, everything is there, even the teak steering wheel. He cant get the body off the chassis because when it was made for le mans, it was set around the tubes for rigidity and its causing him all the problems"

Difficult to know where to start with this one. TVR never raced at Le Mans in the 1950,s, 3.5 litre engine????, they never used that in a TVR till the 350i 20 years later and all TVR's till 1968 had bonded on bodies.
This is obviously not a Le Mans car because the fuel filler is in the wrong place amongst other tell tale signs. Perhaps a photo of one of the doors would make it 100% certain that it is not a genuine race car
Sadly after 40 years folklore takes over. Having said all of that it is still a rare and valuable car but the body must come off(a very dirty and difficult job)to do a proper restoration.

Suggest giving the TVRCC Model Registrar a call - details in Sprint.

He should be able to tell you something from the chassis number.

Just a note....The picture shows a MGA/B unit which would be 1800cc and that I understand the Le-mans cars had a light on the rear wing, just to the rear of the doors that illuminated the numbers on the doors!

Well to be precise the MGA unit was 1588 or 1622 and the B engine was the 1800. the block will have this capacity cast on it but it's on the other side of the block. Rich...
