Lovely Tuscan in the classifieds
Discussion
Hi the car in question is mine first off i would like to thank those of you who have made positive comments towards my car, secondly i would like to make it clear my intention was not to mislead people into think it was an original v8 tuscan i had described it that way because it is one in every sense except the paperwork which states v6 as does the chassis number eg if it had been a vixen with a v8 i would have called it a vixen v8 as i call my rx7 an rx7 v8 as mentioned in a previous post any way in this case i can see my error and i have changed the discription. Yes it was in the bonhams sale and was bid to 29000 however it didnt sell due to the fact that there sale commision is 15% of the hammer price plus a buyers premium on top of the sale price in effect if the car sold at 29000 i would be returned £24650 end the buyer would pay around £33000 total for the car to this end i had a higher reserve and i now feel it makes most sense to sell the car privately.
It is a great little car which has been lovingly restored this year i am keen to sell so i can move on to a new project but i am not desperate to sell so i figure it is best to wait for the right buyer to come along hope you see where im coming from thanks for reading

Hi Matt, its a nice looking car sofar I can see on the pictures.
I guess its better to put V8 back in the top title (for the search engine), say after the word coupe, then its already a bit different.
and then mentioning in the ad that it has a engine conversion to V8 model during the restoration,
or something like that I guess then nobody has a problem with what is and what was?
Sadly its not a LHD (that is for me living in the Netherlands)
can you tell us more about the car? is the chassis (which looks ok) also made stronger or so
during the build up or is there no need for such in a V6 chassis.

Hi Mat
Makes sense to hold off i fully agree that with the premiums etc it makes it hard for you to achieve what your happy with.
As others have said it only takes one person to really want a car.
I guess i compare her to the V8 that sold at Silverstone at about 34k and your right they would have returned much less after premium so really they let it go very low for a genuine V8.
Yours looked really nice and i was rather tempted.
Good luck there a Custodian is out there somewhere just be patient.

Surely you realised the buyers/sellers premium position? Its made pretty clear in Bonhams paperwork. Also the auctioneer always has the option of using the buyers permium to pay the seller his reserve. Tis a large chunk of wonga especially if the car is worth a lot but then again Bonhams and Coys both reach people a classified won't.
Its a nice car and I wish you luck but in the current market originality and provenance are key.

I don't know if you looked at the whole thread, but someone was asking about the origin of the gauges.
As for myself, I was more interested about the clearance between the hood and the air cleaner. How much extra is there? Also, what cam, and what is the engine's torque capacity?
Thanks,
B.

Excellent advice. If you can store it, just put it away until you get your price. In 2 years it will look cheap. These cars, including Ms, have only started to appreciate, they will be a multiple of today's bids. I don't say this with any glee, a lot of genuine enthusiasts will be washed out, and I doubt will ever get the chance to get back in. Colin.
Hi yes thanks the chassis is original, v6 and v8 are the same, clearence between the bonnet and intake is around 2 inches, yes i realised bonhams charges which is why the resevre was high to allow for this as someone said in an earlier post these auctions go out to a very wide audience which was my thinking too, however wasnt to be this time, i dont think they made enoungh of the cars condition, i would keep it but it is one of 3 tvr,s we have and many other projects all of which require some time and effort

indeed a very nice car...but against the common opinion:
"A Car is worth what one person Is willing to pay" i must disagree:
a car is worth the price, valued by the market, valuers and market monitoring resutling in prices determined according to the condition and originality.
when i see this cheapish, white aftermarket dials and gauges in combination with such a high price expectation....thats a no go....
exeptional cars might fetch more....but it needs to find someone who is willing to pay this "extra" money, as even the "normal" price evaluations are alwyas more positive than the market reflects....also exeptional cars are often not expetional...they are perfectly restored, only.
e.g. recently a well kown auctioneer tried to sell Ginetta G15 which was in oustanding condition...therefore the estimated price was set extremely high (foulish 20000pound)....max bid ended at 10k....after auction 10k had been agreed, but finally the buyer cancelled again that deal!!!
so the deal was "nearly" finshed at half the estimate!!! and thats how most auctions end!!!

What you describe is all true, usually. Today it is not the cars that are increasing in value, it is the money chasing them that is, and will accellerate so, in devaluation. Old cars made in small numbers will take on a commodity value going forward. The process is well underway with the pre '72 cars and later ones will be drawn in as others become out of reach."A Car is worth what one person Is willing to pay" i must disagree:

"normal" price evaluations are alwyas more positive than the market reflects" what do you mean?
I predict todays prices will look cheap in 2 yrs and if you have an old TVR, then think very carefully about selling if you ever want to buy it back.
Colin.
To invest that kind if money in a transplant is not out of the way if done well.
Needs a retrim (with correct instruments, seats etc) IMO.
I still think it's expensive, but to try and build one to what appears to be a high standard (trim aside) would cost similar or more cash?
