Currently working on my TVR Taimar, nut and bolt rebuild. The question I would like answering is:- Do I restore to completly original spec or do I upgrade and modify as I put it back together?

I am helping Tony Hall restore his 3000M, we thought about this too and there were several routes we thought of of: Completely 100% standard, try and modernise everywhere, balls out racer mods to make it a rocket machine, or the compromise! We chose the compromise, trying to essentially keep the character of the car but incorporating some upgrades and modern equipment along the way, e.g. fitting a later style ARB, fitting electronic ignition etc.

I think the point with TVRs is that chassis aside, they are mostly made up of other makes of car and were (and still are) very much in continual development so IMO it's definately OK to improve where practicable. I would draw the line at doing this if it becomes very expensive or end up losing the charcter of the car by making so detached from what it was as you could just as well have bought a different car better suited to your requirements.

At the end of the day its down to you and what you want from the car when it is done.
