ideas to stop the hot air

Has anyone tried anything to stop the flow of air thru the holes in the firewall at the two hood/bonnet latch levers. When moving along I get significant air flow coming from under the dash that is being pushed thru the two slots where the levers penetrate the firewall. The air movement is not the problem as the blower is less than adequate. It's the fact that it is very warm/hot air from the engine compartment.
Any ideas.

I stuck a couple of carpet off cuts on with a cut in them to allow the lever to come through, seemed to work

Even better is a vent at the back of the bonnet to let the hot air out!!!!
